The Time August 1, 2008 Las Vegas, Nv review

I went and saw the Time at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV on August 1, 2008. This was my 7th show in the Vegas run, my 11th show of the year and my 47th over all.

I am a creature of habit and had developed a routine for most of my trip. I got up around noon and went down stairs to get a light breakfast. I saw Jerome, but he was with his family so I didn't intrude. After making some phone calls, I went back to my room. Housekeeping was in the process of cleaning my room so I did the wander for a little while longer. Around 4 p.m., I met Jennifer for lunch at the cafe in the casino. I knew her from the first Vegas show and we had a great time talking about that show. I went back to my room and got changed for the show. I was in Jimi mode again, but with a different shirt.

About one hour before show time, I went down to the showroom. Unfortunately my name was left off the guest list again. Luckily for me, the ladies that are in charge of all that know I was suppose to be on it so they let me in anyway. I really appreciate this especially since the last few days, EVERYBODY that is even remotely related to or friends with the band was showing up. The first couple shows I went to, the guest list was 15 people total. Now it had grown to 2 pages and some people were not getting in at all.Props to Jamie and the rest of the staff at the casino for keeping it under control.

I ended up in the booth right behind the sound board so I got to watch Javier do his thing. The guy that works for the casino mixed the first few shows. He did a good job, but wasn't familiar with the guys material. There was a definite improvement with Javier on the board. Well on to the show

Here is the Line-up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker
Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC
Monte Moir-Keyboards and lead vocals

I really dig the intro, nice to acknowledge and introduce all the fellas. The keys on Get it up give it the feel from the first album. Too Funky. School was in for the half beat on Cool. Good to see the fellas just jamming on a tune. And speaking of time, Show time, the fellas just kept on that groove for over ten minutes. Wild and Loose always gets the party going. 777-9311 could have been longer, but hey its a 25 song set so something had to be cut. Blondie and My Drawers showed off the axe man. Jerome did what he does best for Fishnet. Get the crowd hyped. It is so good to see him back on stage. I've certainly missed him both on stage and off the last few years.

Cut'em Jesse. The nightly highlight began with his solo on Jerk out and then went into the Skillet. Damn I love that song and dude just went off on it like he has done every night. Red House followed. This version was longer than the night before and the power trio was deep in blues country. The solo medley followed and brought the crowd to its knees.

Monte did his thang with If you were here tonight. Heidi Marie came out for the two Janet songs. The eye candy was standing next to me waiting to go on stage for See Thru and I had no complaints. Morris and Jimmy had their little rap going and then the band launched into its newest song. A rather large, older lady was brought on stage to dance for Jesse on If the kid can't make you come. Jerome needs to quit messing with him. Jesse just looked the other direction and blasted away on his guitar

Jerome introduced the celebrities in the crowd.Teena Marie, Kevin Garnett, Johnny Gill and Tom Joyner were all in the house. Jerome drug a reluctant Kevin on stage. Later Tom and Johnny both got on stage for The Bird.Jerome found me and wanted me to get on stage, but I turned him down. The band left and came back to close with Jungle Love.

I went to the side to go back stage. It had been packed all week so a nobody, but family order had been given. Luckily my man Jaybee came by and told the other security I was family(thanks man) so Jennifer and I got to go up. We saw all the fellas and said hello, but we were late coming up and it was meet and greet time so it was a brief visit. We waited since we knew most of them would come back. It was a long wait, but well worth it. Jesse came back to get his guitar. He sat down and played Jimi's freedom for us. You gotta be fuckin' kidding me. My second favorite guitar player playing something by my favorite guitar player. Oh and gets better. What followed trumps any experience I have ever had and believe me I got some stories about hanging out with the fellas. Unfortunately, its just something I can't include in the review. I know for me and the few other people that witnessed it we won't ever forget it. Props to my man Jesse for being such a C O O L Cat.

One more to go. Look for the review later on tonight.

That´s a very good setlist. The songs they played and the fact that Jesse, Jimmy Jam and Terry are members again makes me really want to see these fellas in action. I didn´t really care for the interim version of The Time but this time they seem to be doing everything alright.
