The Time July 29, 2008 Las Vegas, NV review

I went and saw the Time at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV on July 29, 2008. This was my 8th show this year, my 44th overall and the forth in the Vegas run with all the original members.

I checked into the hotel and wandered around. I bumped into Monte and talked to him briefly. I was about to go up to the room and change when I saw my Man Jaybee. He took me back stage to see the fellas before the show. I got to chat with everybody, but Morris who busy so I didn't intrude. My "Cousin" forgot to put me on the guest list , but fortunately for me, all the people who work the show know me at this point and Jamie hooked me up in one of the VIP booths. Turns out I ended up with Matt and his friend Adam. I have been talking to Matt for years on the net and sent him a box of tapes back in the day, but this was the first time I had met him in person so this was very Cool. They were decked out in suits and Stacy's. Too Funky

Well on to the show

Here is the Line-up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker
Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC
Monte Moir-Keyboards and lead vocals
Terry Lewis- Bass
Jellybean Johnson- Drums
Jesse Johnson-Guitar and lead vocals

Here is the set list with my ever insightful comments to follow
1. Intro
2. Get it up
3. Cool
4. Wild and Loose
5. 777-9311
6. The Stick
7. Blondie
8. My Drawers
9. Fishnet
10. The Oak Tree
11. Jerk Out
12. The Skillet!!!!!
13. Be Your Man
14. Can You Help Me
15. Free World
16. If you were here tonight- Monte on Vocals
17. What have you done for me lately?
18. Black Cat
19. See Thru-NEW SONG!!!
20. If the Kid can't make you come
21. Ice Cream Castles
22. Gigolos get lonely too
23. The Walk
24. The Bird
Encore
25. Jungle Love

This was the exact same set list as the third show I went to a little over a month ago. I think Jam doing the intro is very Cool. The fellas names were on the screens after they were introduced. Monte and Jam come down to join Morris and Jerome for the old school check the merchandise pose. Cool was probably the longest song of the night with the lesson on the half beat. "What Time is it?" Morris shouted as the band went into Wild and Loose and the crowd erupted. Dez's old phone number was next, but unfortunately the solo was left out. That was probably my only complaint of the night(and that was relatively minor considering what followed)

Blondie had me rockin' out and to follow it with My Drawer's just kicks ass. Jerome got the crowd going with Fishnet and the Oak Tree and even pulled out the split for Jerk Out. When Jesse hit the solo it was killing time. The Skillet was next and dude just went off. The man is in another world when he cuts loose. Some Heavy wah wah followed by this funky ass rhythm and the crowd exploded when the familiar "Oh, Oh, Oh" started Be your Man. This flowed into Can you help me and then Free World. When Jesse sang that Chorus, the rest of the crowd got to its feet. This has been the absolute highlight of the shows for me and alot of other folks. Just seeing Jesse out and doing the Time material and his own stuff is just so surreal to me.

Monte took the center stage for if you were Here tonight and he was driving the ladies crazy. The Jam and Lewis production team was spotlighted next with Heidi Marie sing What have you done for me lately( I loved her outfit, the fellas know what I'm talkin' about) and then Jellybean's Black Cat(with Jesse rippin' it up again) Morris brought the lovely ladies out for See Thru.

Next was If the Kid can't make you come and Ice Cream castles. Jesse was throwing some serious wah wah licks into it. You gotta be kidding me!!!. The show concluded with the Walk, The Bird and the encore of Jungle Love.

I went backstage after the show and Jerome wanted to know what I thought and when I told him that Jesse was just killing me(in a good way) he drug me back there so I could tell him myself. Aside from being the guitar player from hell, Jesse is just a cool laid back dude and I was thrilled to be talking to him about the show. While we were talking, Malcolm-Jamal Warner came up and introduced himself to me and caught up with Jesse. That was pretty damn cool. I mingled and talked with the other fellas. I Met Regina King who also attended the show. Sweet. Being a hanger on is pretty damn Cool sometimes.

And this was only day one
four more to follow so stay tuned
