sheila e. health problems? I wanted to ask u something.
In some report about Sheila E.(drumsoloartist.com) they’re saying something about health reasons. I didn’t know that. What was the matter? I'm pretty sure u can help me out. …...."In the following year, she appeared in the Andrew Dice Clay comedy "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" and in 1991, released her fourth CD, "Sex Cymbal". The CD, which was largely produced by her younger brother Peter Michael, included two singles accompanied by brilliant videos: the title track, and "Droppin' Like Flies". After taking several years off for health reasons, Sheila's next project, the E-Train, started in 1994. The band that played a mixture of soul, Latin jazz, funk, fusion and gospel toured in Europe in 1994, and finally released a CD, entitled "Writes of Passage" in 1998…..” Dancing helps relieve the pain. During a performance, one of her lung collapsed and she could only breath at 80%. She was rushed at the hospital and got extensive care. (source: VH1, where are they now)

Sheila had a couple different issues to deal with. An acupuncture needle pierced her lung, and she suffered a collapsed lung as a result. Also, years of playing drums in high heels caused her major back problems, and she has talked about having to relearn to walk because of it. More than that, she apparently was incredibly frail as a result and couldn't walk very far. Luckily, she seems to have recovered from that time very well and is, I hope, in excellent health now.

No, it wasn't during a performance. She was in a car in L.A. and went to Cedars Sinai. (The acupuncture needle had pierced the lung at some point before this, but it took a while for it to deflate.)
Incidentally, the timing of this presented in the clip you cited in your original post is a little off. The collapsed lung occurred in August 1990, before the Sex Cymbal album came out. She was able to perform and promote the album, but her health must have taken a turn for the worse after that; that's when I think the back problems occurred, or maybe the wear and tear of promoting the album took its toll.

I'd never heard of it either, outside of an episode of AbFab, but apparently it's possible. From the web: Organ punctures
Inserting the needle deep into the lung can cause a pneumothorax to develop which means air will escape out of the lung and be trapped there causing the lung to collapse. The same potential exists for the other vital organs of the body. There is the chance a kidney or the protective sac around the heart could be punctured. There is also a risk of stroke induced by Acupuncture if the needle is inserted improperly at the base of the skull.

I have had acupuncture and there is no way a needle could puncture your lung. The needles are wobbly things that are only put into the skin about 1-2 cm. Who ever came up with that rumor is special.
That's just ridiculous. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

That's just ridiculous. ----- Actually, it is not a rumor Sheile has said her lung was punctured by a needle. I have always been a little suspicious about her story but it is her health and therefore, her business.
