I never knew about it until recently, but the vibe of the song sounds a lot like Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl". "Nasty Gal" is so funky that Prince was probably influenced by it. "Nasty Girl" really sounds like Prince's own personal spin on the 1975 funk jam. Does anyone know anything about this? It can't be a coincidence can it? Finally, which "nasty" song is the best: "Nasty Gal", "Nasty Girl", or "Nasty"? Personally, I like all 3 songs, but "Nasty Girl" is my favorite. Wow, that's Miles Davis' wife. Never even knew about her before. Thanks! Vanity 6 wins the Nasty contest. Janet comes a close second, but I can only laugh whenever I hear her say "who's that eating that nasty food," and anyway Prince's musical score is miles ahead of Jam & Lewis' in this case. "Nasty Girl" is pure 80's funk minimalist uncensored glory with a strong & definitive beginning, middle and end. Timeless! [Edited 7/16/08 6:55am] break THE purple GoD | |

I totally disagree with Janet stealing Vanity's look. Everyone including myself wore BIG ASS HAIR, including the heavy metal bands, Madonna,Paula Abdul, Robin Givens, & just about everyone in Hollywood etc... Beside as far as Vanity's wore drobe was straight lingerie. I don't recall Janet dressing in victoria secret clothing as an act. Honestly, I wouldn't think that Janet would be jealous of Vanity. Now I would agree that the Mary Jane Girls got there look from Vanity 6 and they also had more hits than Vanity 6.

Janet didn't steal Vanity's look. Almost every Black female artist in the 80's wore that wet and wavy weave. (hell, my momma had a weave light that ) "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna
