The Time Las vegas, NV June 26, 2008 concert review I went and saw the Time at the Flamingo hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 26, 2008. This was my sixth show this year, my 42nd over all and the 3rd with all the original members.
Around 5:30 p.m., I met Jellybean at the show room for the sound check. It ended up being Jellybean, Monte and Jerome. I got on stage and walked around, checking out the set up. at one point I was at the center stage mic and was tempted to try my luck as lead singer, but lets face it, I'm not that Cool. Monte was running through If you were here tonight and Bean joined in. Jellybean then ran through the drums for The Stick, The Skillet, Blondie and some other stuff. I talked to the fellas for a little bit after that and went back to the room to change. I came back down a little after 7 p.m. All the security knew me by then and let me in no problem. I got my seat in the VIP Booth with some members of the bands family and two ladies that worked at the Casino. They had no idea who the Time were, but believe me, they had a blast anyway. Here is the Line-up Morris Day- Vocals and Cool Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC Monte Moir-Keyboards and lead vocals Terry Lewis- Bass Jellybean Johnson- Drums Jesse Johnson-Guitar and lead vocals Here is the set list with my ever insightful comments to follow 1. Intro 2. Get it up 3. Cool 4. Wild and Loose 5. 777-9311 6. The Stick 7. Blondie 8. My Drawers 9. Fishnet 10. The Oak Tree 11. Jerk Out 12. The Skillet!!!!! 13. Be Your Man 14. Can You Help Me 15. Free World 16. If you were here tonight- Monte on Vocals 17. What have you done for me lately? 18. Black Cat 19. See Thru-NEW SONG!!! 20. If the Kid can't make you come 21. Ice Cream Castles 22. Gigolos get lonely too 23. The Walk 24. The Bird Encore 25. Jungle Love The set list was the same as the day before except that Girl was left out and Gigolos get lonely too was added back in. The total length of the show was about 96 minutes. The band did the old school pose at the beginning of the show, where they all come to the front of the stage. Very Cool indeed. The big screen seems to get more in sync each show. Jerome was even more of a wild man, he was all over the place. The band sounded even tighter. If the first show wasn't such a surprise with finally seeing the original band and the changes in the set list, I might rank this show higher than that one. I can't stopping raving about Jesse. He went off even more on the Skillet tonight if thats possible. At the end, he started on some straight up blues shit and I had to switch from watching him in awe and watching Jellybean make that "Damn that dude can play face" Kick ass. Jesse got annoyed by the chick that was dancing with him during the solo on kid. Toni Basil got on stage for If the Kid can't make you come and Ice Cream castles. Are you looking for some Easy Rider or Mickey reference? I've got none. The show closed with The Bird and the encore of Jungle Love. All I can say for the billionth Time is WOW, Double WOW. This is something I've wanted to see all my Life and now that I have it doesn't seem quite real. If you can possibly go, Do it. You won't regret it. [Edited 7/7/08 22:22pm] | |
