The Time Las Vegas, NV June 25, 2008 review

I went and saw the Time at the Flamingo hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 25, 2008. This was my fifth show this year, my 41st over all and the 2nd with all the original members.

I was in the elevator when I got a call saying I was hooked up for the show. Cool. I got my ticket and found my seat. I spotted JD and visited with him and Robin before the show. I happen to be sharing the booth tonight with Mr. Bill and Charlene who I had met the night before.Nice Folks.

Finally it was show time

Here is the Line-up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton-Valet, Dancer, background vocals and general mischief maker
Jimmy Jam-Keyboards and MC
Monte Moir-Keyboards and lead vocals
Terry Lewis- Bass
Jellybean Johnson- Drums
Jesse Johnson-Guitar and lead vocals

Here is the set list with my ever insightful comments to follow
1. Intro
2. Get it up
3. Cool
4. Girl
5. Wild and Loose
6. 777-9311
7. The Stick
8. Blondie
9. My Drawers
10. Fishnet
11. The Oak Tree
12. Jerk Out
13. The Skillet!!!!!
14. Be Your Man
15. Can You Help Me
16. Free World
17 If you were here tonight- Monte on Vocals
18. What have you done for me lately?
19. Black Cat
20. See Thru-NEW SONG!!!
21. If the Kid can't make you come
22. Ice Cream Castles
23. The Walk
24. The Bird
Encore
25. Jungle Love

The set list was the same as the night before with the exception of Gigolos get lonely too which was cut tonight. I found out later this was due to time constraints. The total length of the show was about 95 minutes, still long for a Time show, but shorter than the night before. There was more Jesse on Get it up tonight. The keys seemed to brought down a notch from the night before.I love that half beat shit they are playing on Cool. Its just too damn funky. 777-9311 is always a highlight and Jesse's solo was cleaner tonight. I am so glad to see the ultimate hype man back on stage where he belongs. Jerome was kidding with the crowd all night long and really got the crowd up for Fishnet and The Oak Tree. Hell, he even brought the split back for Jerk Out.

The Jesse section was next and I could watch that every night. The Skillet was incredible. Oh Hell yeah my recipe ain't raw. Jesse was just shredding. Then he goes off into Hendrix territory again. WOW. Jesse started the "Hey" chant and Bean laid down the beat before the Be Your man/Can You Help Me/Free World Medley. Dude I'm getting chills just writing this.

Jesse left and Monte took the spotlight for If you were here tonight. He got some feedback in his mic at the beginning, but it did little to distract and the crowd was loving it. The Janet twofer was next and once again the man was on fire for Black Cat. Morris and the lovely ladies were next with See Thru. I can't wait to hear the studio version of this song. The ladies from the crowd were brought on stage for If the Kid can't make you come. Can everybody tell that I'm a Jesse freak? Dude was playing the blues. The girls kept getting on stage after the cut off. Some dude got up there too, but that didn't last long. He got back on there again during The Bird and I thought Jaybee was going to have to throw his ass off the stage, but he didn't. The show closed with Jungle Love of course.

I made my way backstage and hung out again. I got the last of the autographs on my Japanese import of What Time is it?. How Cool is that to have all seven members sign it. I also got Jesse to sign the Can you help me 12 inch that I've had since it came out in 85. Kick ass. I got more pictures with the fellas. The backstage cleared out and I went back to my room to change.
I could get use to this [Cool]

if you really like the half beats check out Victor Wooten live. They are the masters of this. He has an official Live in America cd from 1999 where they do this alot. They are my favorite live act myself with the Time(original only) as my number one. I think you will like them. FUNK to the max!! The only bad part about the cd is that most of the rock set was cut out. It has a little but most is gone. If you get to see them live go!! great show when he is with his brothers. I still remember the first time I saw them they opened for Prince one show at paisley park and they BLEW him OFF THE STAGE!! I LOVED IT!!! I never heard of them at that time and I have seem them 6 times now since. What a show!! I wish that existed on bootleg video!!
