Many groups have reformed using a variation of the original group name. "Dennis Edward's Temptations", "Harold Melvin's Bluenotes", etc. It is done all the time. Prince would have no legal right to stop them. And conversely Prince could release anything he wanted and credit it to The Time, including any old recordings he has and Morris and Co. would have no legal right to stop him. Oh wait... Correct me if I am wrong but, I thought Morris Day and The Time was being used for the gigs that are going to be Morris and the replacement players and the Vegas gig is billed as the The Time since the original members are doing those shows.
