I can dig it...The coolest looking cat to ever strap on an axe is Hendrix. P, Jesse, Dez, myself and every other brutha who plays rock guitar all owes hella much to Jimi. Visually and musically. That's an automatic. I think Dez is someone who always gets left out of the mix. To me, Dez looked hella cool. To be honest, Dez looked cooler playing guitar in P's band than P did. Dez did look cool..especially around the 1999 era. It's funny..When Dez's scene flashed across the screen (in "P.R") people in the theatre were yelling "Isn't that the guy that Wendy replaced?" (lol). Visually his "heavy metal/new romantic" look did make an impact. Hell, I even rocked a "kamakazi" headband and a Explorer because of Dez (back then). | |

Jesse is more a 'lick' player. his solo's are largely built from (very well executed!) licks, mostly pentatonic material. Prince solo's also contain a lot of pentatonic stuff, but there is a much stronger melodic content. So no automatically played blues licks, but mini compositions in the context of the song. Although I like Jesse's playing very much, I really can't imagine him playing solo's like the ones on 'Alexa the Paris', 'God (instrumental)' or the 'Question of U'. Absolutely correct!! Let's not forget that solo he did when he played with Tom Petty - my guitar gently weeps. Or his live solos for Purple Rain. Dude takes U somewhere U don't ever want 2 leave.  | |

I had the pleasure of seeing Jesse do his thang this weekend at the last show. I got to meet him and chat with him afterwards. He is TOO dang cute for words but I had NO idea he was so tiny. | |

Yeah, Jesse and Dez both are short. Their not THAT much taller than P. It was very surprising cuz people are always going on and on about how short P is. But in heels I had a good 4-5 inches on Jesse and I'm not even gonna talk about the gray eyeshadow.  But he was still cute as all hell. I'd pick Jesse's ass up and carry him around if he'd play for me. | |
