The Time Sounding Acts? I think I've obtained nearly at least a song or two of every 80's artist who in one way or another hopped on the Minneapolis Sound bandwagon in relation to Prince's synth-driven, funk-rock.
With that said, is it possible to get a list of acts who molded themselves after The Time musically? http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

The first three entries on your list preceeded the Time as well as Kool and the Gang and its a known fact that Prince ripped that Morris image from Kid Kreole.
Frankie Beverly and Maze? That was my MOM'S music. They came WAY before the Time. Before Prince, too. I'm sorry but the Dazz Band K & the G and Cameo have ALWAYS been the way they are. They started using more synths when record companies started adding those key member clauses to every band's contract and many bands started downsizing. Prince wasn't the only artist using synths in the 80s - EVERYBODY was. Stevie was using synths before Prince was. The reason a lot of acts had a "synth funk" sound was because synths were new technology. It didn't all come from Prince. Let's not start trying to alter history around here.

The bulk of that seems to be directed towards Tane's list, but just let me clarify the following: I in no way associate every act of the 80's with adapting P's/Minneapolis sound. There's a distinct line between chasing the aforementioned sound (i.e.; Jak) and sounding of the decade itself (i.e.; Lionel Richie and so forth).. In asking for acts who have a Time-esque sound if you will, I'm thinking more along the lines of r&b acts who blatantly lifted (i.e; Ebonee Webb, which in their case turned out to be a visual overhaul as well). Hope that clears everything up on my end. http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot
