Z Cult Fave/ Take it out man. "U wanna see it? Shall I take it out?...take it out man."
One of the BADDEST songs of all time, let alone in the 80's. "The Stick" is gloriously stoopid. To be honest, it's the HARDEST cut The Time has ever done. Not saying it's the best...I'm saying it's the hardest. Hardest meaning the most bangin' for ya'll that don't know. Cold blooded ass rhythm guitar by P on the hook. And even the breakdown where P cuts up on lead guitar is killin'. The melody is cool. The whole song. As much as I love the tracks from this album, I've always bumped "The Stick" the most. And to think that Lisa co wrote this shit....no wonder P used Lisa so much. She was funky. Like a brutha. Lisa was totally different before Wendy joined the band. Lisa's sensibilty at that time, was perfect for P. Even Lisa's vocals was a big part of P's hardest shit. All of P's produced albums, his Controversy and 1999 albums to the first two Time albums and Vanity6 album, all had that dark, wicked, evil type of funk. And Lisa's vocals was a big part of that "sound". No surprise she got down on The Stick. Looking like she looked AND writing that kind of shit? Anyway, who else on here digs The Stick? Not quite sure why Morris is telling a cat to "take it out man". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I think musically, he was saying "Let's end the song". But I thought he said "Take it out band". He said that on an early concert I heard on radio back in the day

I'm not sure why he's telling a woman to "get it up" Prince and his role-reversal lyrics, lol. That's what I loved best about the Morris Day persona. Though it was evident he loved his women -- some of his more flamboyant mannerisms caused for an eyebrow or two to be raised from time to time (such as his quirky relationship with Jerome). http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

I think musically, he was saying "Let's end the song". But I thought he said "Take it out band". He said that on an early concert I heard on radio back in the day Yeah but he does say "U Wanna see it? Shall I take it out?" It always sounded like he said "Take it out, man." That's what it seems like he would say after asking if u wanna see it and shall I take it out. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

but just before he says that,he says "Do U wanna see it"? "Shall I take it out?"
so naturally,"take it out man" would make more sense

Probably part of Morris's persona I know that pill...I'm talking about the whole line. Obviously when Morris says "Do u wanna see it? Shall I take it out?", he's not talking about his band. Ya'll know that. Everybody knows what Morris is refering to when he asks "Do u wanna see it? Shall I take it out?" And the name of the song is "The Stick". But live in concert, I bet he meant that for the ladies Well, I have no doubt that it was P that had Morris say that in the song in the first place. That ties in with his twisting up the sex role play; Get It Up. Morris is telling that to whom? A woman? That's something a woman tells a man. P knew that...that's why he did it. Same scenerio as Jack U Off. Then much later with "If I Was Your Bitch", ooops sorry, "Girlfriend". Anyway, both times I saw the o.g. lineup of The Time in concert, Controversy and 1999 tours, Morris didn't even say that part in the song at all. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Yeah,Prince always wrote those confusing,role-playing lyrics It was his way of creating controversy. He did this alot during the early 80s."Get It Up" is a prime example.Typically,it's a woman who would be telling a man to "get it up" and not the other way around.Same with "Jack U Off".Imagine if he had written a weird lyric for one of his females to sing.....Vanity saying "boy I get a hard-on when you look at me like that" LOL

Had Vanity stayed around abit longer, we probably would've got to hear her or Susan deadpan to their lover; "I'm sorry, but I'm just going to have to rape you!" http://www.last.fm/user/somebodyunot

I didn't "discover" this track until about '93--'94. That's when the songwriter and producer in me was coming to light and I was just playing damned near every record in the house in their entirety. On Spring Break '94 I was with my crew at the bowling alley, and I couldn't stop referencing this song. One of my girls was like "What are you talking about?"
Anyway, the Time's first lp is funky, from the opening of "Get It Up" to the last phrases of "The Stick" I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
