The Time Montgomery, AL May 23, 2008 concert review

There is a slightly longer version of this review on my myspace page

I went and saw the Time at the Jubilee Cityfest in Montgomery, AL on May 23, 2008. This was my 3rd show this year and my 39th overall.

My cohort in concert travels Jason rejoined me for this trip after missing the last show. Unfortunately, our other normal participant in these trips, Ashley, was unable to accompany us. We left my house in Pensacola, FL around 3 p.m. We stopped to fill up Jason's Bronco and we put in $99.99 and the thing still wasn't full. Crazy. Well the rain hit us almost as soon as we got into Alabama, really getting bad when we got on the interstate. It quit good and plenty before we reached Montgomery though. We got off our exit and had alot of stop and go traffic for about 9 miles. Turns out the hotel was right off interstate 85 and if we would have just gone 65 to 85 we would have saved some time and frustration. sometimes mapquest is really fucked up. We checked into the room, found out the time of lobby call and chilled out for a little while.

We went down to the lobby and waited on the fellas. they slowly started trickling in. We caught up and waited for time to go. the local TV station was waiting to interview Morris. When that was over, we piled into the van with the fellas and rode to the show. As soon as we got there, they wanted the band on stage. Something I had never seen before. usually its hurry up and wait. Jason and I found a good spot on the right hand side of the stage with a perfect view of Monte and Jellybean. Jason went from hanger-on to guitar tech when he was shining his flashlight on Freeze's bass so he could tune it. Finally it was show time

Here is the Lineup
Morris Day-Vocals and Cool
Jellybean Johnson-Drums
Monte Moir-Keyboards
Tori "Freak Juice" Ruffin-Guitar
Ricky "Freeze" Smith-Bass
Jeff McNeely-Keyboards
Silvester Donald-valet and dancer
Daniel Joo-valet and dancer

Here is the set list
1. DAT Intro
2. The Skillet
3. Cool
4. Get it up
5. Pandemonium
6. Chocolate
7. Wild and loose
8. The Stick
9. Fishnet
10. The Oak tree
11. Jerk Out
12. 777-9311
13. Girl-brief instrumental
14. Sometimes I get lonely-one verse from Morris off stage
15. Gigolos get lonely too
16. The walk
17. The Bird
encore
18. Jungle Love

I would guess the show was about 50 minutes long. The fellas were throwing in a few different riffs here and there. You could really here the keys, bass and drums at this show. Tori seemed to be getting a different tone than normal, but I was digging it. Almost as soon as the show was over, we squeezed back in the van and headed back to the hotel. Some of the guys stayed in the lobby and watched the Lakers/Spurs game. We ended up going to eat and have a few drinks with a couple of the guys. I won't go into details and honestly you wouldn't believe me if I did. Thank God we had Jason's bronco. I can honestly say we will be talkin' about that shit until the day we die.

As one of the Coolest guys I know told me "Don't you miss Vegas" Believe me if its at all possible, that's where show 40 is going to be. Happy Easter Jizzle

for the last time.
That is NOT "The Time".

That is "Morris Day and the Time".

HUGE DIFFERENCE.

One is a band that i will be flying to Las Vegas to see.
The other one i don't care if i ever see.

Please if you're going to keep posting this let people know ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that the REAL BAND will be doing shows this summer, that you're referring to MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME and not THE TIME.

Thanks.

You're missing the point.
It's CONFUSING.
ESPECIALLY now that the originals are doing shows this summer.
Would it be that hard to just title it "Morris Day and the Time concert review"?

Look
Like I said, I've been posting these reviews forever. Anybody that takes the time to read a message board about the Time can tell by reading the line-up that its not the same one that's playing in Vegas. Its all over the site that they are playing starting June 24. I get your point, but that's the way I've been doing them and I'm not going to change it now

You do list the line-up right before the set list on every one of your "Time" threads, which makes it obvious as to which line-up it is.

Keep doing what you're doing....it's fine!
