The Time New orleans May 3, 2008 review

I went and saw the Time at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans on May 3, 2008. This was my second show this year and my 38th overall. I have now seen them one time for every year I've been on this planet.

I was all packed, ready to go. One of my tires was low the night before so I checked it again and what do I see. This big ass nail sticking out. Great. Well luckily the tire had not lost its air and Vanoy is right around the corner so I drove there and 20 minutes later I was on the road. The drive wasn't too bad. I hit some rain in Biloxi and again when I got across the bridge in New Orleans. Not good as this was to be an outdoor show. Surprisingly the traffic wasn't too bad on Canal. I parked in a lot and walked to the hotel where the band was staying.

I walked into the hotel and spotted my man Arlington right off the bat. Talked to him for a little while, then I ventured out into the streets to find something to eat. After that, I came back to the hotel and waited for the band. The band members started to trickle into the lobby. I caught up with everybody and waited to head to the show. Well its a good thing I came by myself. If we would have had to find the gig ourselves, we definitely would have got lost, but since it was just me, I got to ride with the band to the show. Oh did I mention it was a Limo and I had never ridden in one before. Kick Ass!!!

The drive seemed to take forever, but it was Cool hanging out with the fellas in style. The backstage area was fully catered with all the food and drink anyone could want. Finally it was show time. We worked our way to the stage. The familiar ticking started and it was on.

Here is the Lineup

Morris Day-Vocals and Cool
Jellybean Johnson-Drums
Monte Moir-Keyboards
Tori "Freak Juice" Ruffin-Guitar
Ricky "Freeze" Smith-Bass

Here is the set list with my ever insightful comments to follow

21. The Bird
encore
22. Jungle Love

The show was a fund raiser for the Zoo. A black tie affair. Everybody in the crowd was dressed to the nines. The bad thing is that it was raining. The band was covered, but the crowd was getting soaked. It did little to dampen their spirits and they were really into it. I started off on the back side of the stage and moved around getting different views through out the show

The Skillet rules. When the rock of Blondie and My Drawers got left in the show I was ecstatic. This was the full show so we got the Ice Cream Castles/ If the kid can't make you come bit. Normally this is where I make a beer run or hit the can, but I really enjoyed it to night. Tori was makin' it hot and all the lovely dressed up ladies on stage was a plus. I have officially been replaced as the dorkiest white guy in the world. Some dude got up their for the Bird that made me look like a pro. Its The Bird, not the Crab. This dude will be a legend on youtube if anybody filmed it. The band left the stage and came back for the encore of Jungle Love that brought down the house.

I hung out backstage with the band after the show and they were in a great mood. The stories I heard, both old and new are the things of childhood dreams. We went back to the hotel. I hung out with Arlington(It was his birthday) and some of the fellas in and around the hotel. Bourbon street was right around the corner and I've never seen so many drunk chicks in all my life and I've actually been down their during Mardi Gras. Around 2 a.m. I decided it was time to head home. The room was outrageous, a third of my mortgage for one night so I passed, plus I had to work the next day. I got on the road and dodged that wind from Hell(or at least cantonment) and got home around 5:45 a.m.

WOW. What can I say. The sound was great, the fellas were in a great mood and we got the full set list. What more can you ask for. Thanks to all the fellas for the continued above and beyond the call of duty hospitality they continue to show me. My next show is coming up in less than two weeks and I can hardly wait.

I have been trying to get them to play for the zoo for two years and when they finally did, I didn't hear anything of it. You see how much people keep in contact with me anymore? Awww, I wish I was there but by the time I heard of it, it was too late. Sounds like everyone had a great time. My boy Arlington kept me in for all the details. LOL! I don't think you and I ever met personally but I have seen you. I haven't been around a lot anymore. But the Time is definately my family. Jesse is the one who pointed you out the last time. Arlington is the bomb.com I love him! I dubbed myself the Godchild of the Time back in the day but now I must re-dubb myself as the "stepchild" of the Time LOL! All of the bandmembers who have been with them since 1998 are my family.
Um... let me warm up my vocals
Me ME ME ME ME...U U U U U!
