From what I hear, Prince wasn't giving Wendy and Lisa their dues, whther it be pay or credits...they quit, and then Bobby Z went off to do something else (IDK why he left), same with BrownMark. And Fink stayed on until 1990. I don't know why Fink decided to leave either. But the way I see it, Prince could've still called it the Revolution, like he did when Gayle and Dez quit. Not to mention he's kept the NPG name despite it being a revolving door act.....
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

apparantly they were pissed at not getting enough credit or involvement in the band and didnt like the fact that the band had grown so big they wanted to leave prior to the parade tour but were talked out of it .have seen them interviewed and they have nothing but praise for the wee man.

Besides any feeling of a lack of creative input which was definately a big part, the breakdown of Prince's relationship with Susannah also contributed to the bands demise, at least on Wendy & Lisa's part. But it wasn't just about Wendy & Lisa, it was a lot of factors.

Many in the core group (namely Wendy, Lisa, Fink) felt the addition of Jerome, Wally and Greg was turning the group into sideshow, taking the focus away from the band, and Prince was spending more time with them than the band members. Brown Mark was also unhappy about his diminishing role in the band and had other offers, but chose to stay for the tour. Prince wanted Mark to stay on with Fink, but Mark chose not to.

Wendy & Lisa did quit the band, but were persuaded to stay on for the sake of the Parade tour. But this didn't necessarily mean they were back for good, it was just for the tour, Prince was already thinking about how to replace them on stage, and his pride was probably hurt that W&L kind of beat him to the punch. As for Bobby Z, it was clear that Prince was favouring Sheila E as his eventual replacement, and this was only a matter of time, I think because Bobby was the longest serving member of the group and well liked within the nucleus of the band, that this was a hard decision for Prince, otherwise it probably would've happened a little sooner.

Prince eventually disbanded the group following the Parade tour, after dinner with W&L on 7th October 1986, phoning Bobby Z. that evening to tell him so. Fink stayed on, Mark left. Jerome also left at this time.

I personally think it was a bittersweet ending that was at least one record too early, the material was there, Dream Factory was pretty much done and dusted, now it's just a footnote or fan curiosity rather than a final farewell. People get pissy about the Revolution - some people romanticise the group, others downplay it - the reality is probably somewhere in between.

thank you for that! good observation at the end.

I always wondered what went on. It just seemed there they were - gone. All bands evolve over time - well most do anyhows, Its good to see them all work together again in recent times as fellow musicians.

And there it is.

Now we just need the W&L brigade to come in on the defense, and we got ourselves a 7 page thread ready for the lockdown!

To kaptain: Wendy and Lisa HELPED Prince on the style of music for Parade, they werent trying to take his career from him, they were introducing him to different varieties of music. And they werent trying to control him either like you seem to think, if it was anyone doing the "controling" it was him. PRINCE controled everything NOT Wendy & Lisa. I seriously think you need to read up ALOT and on a bunch of stuff before posting another BS post like you just posted.Ill give you another tip: Prince had a MAJOR crush on Lisa before Wendy came into the band.

P had the hots for Lisa? Never knew that. That explains why he wrote that song about her. Couldn't see her back in the day putting up with P's womanizing ways.

Ooh I want to hear this story!

I always thought the song was kind of tongue-in-cheek though...
