Why is this hard for some people to believe? It seems completely plausible that they were together, engaged and then split. That is probably why they were apart for some time after that. It probably took time for their hearts to heal and for them to even be around each other as friends again. Anyone who has been in a romantic relationship and eventually became friends knows that there needs to be time apart before a reconciliation on a "friend" level can happen.

Prince seems to keep his most serious relationships more private in that they don't become "part of the act." They might sing backup or perform with him. However, the nature of the relationship beyond that is left more to speculation. Sheila E., Susan and Susannah fall into this category to me. I am also tempted to add Nona Gaye. Some relationships he makes more public through photos, music, etc. However, others we are just left to speculate about. I don't mean the random jump-offs that he's had. I am referring to the longer term relationships that he has had and keep private.

So to me it is obvious that there was always something more than "friendship" between Sheila and Prince. Recent interviews have revealed this. For example, I found her to be very candid and believable in the Candy Dulfer interview when Candy asked why they hadn't married. Even Candy said they were perfect for one another. Sheila commented about how Prince told her that he and Andre were placing bets on who was going to marry her first when they met her. Prince followed her career, so he was definitely interested in her - not just musically. I think a lot of people around here like to believe that Susannah was Prince's great love based off of heresay that they've read in books or their own speculations about which songs she might have inspired. However, there is no denying that there is something deep between Prince and Sheila. Sheila was in the picture when many of those beautiful songs were written. She has also remained in the picture. When I see them together, especially in person, there is a profound spirit of love, respect and admiration between them. Although they might only be friends today, the kind of connection they have seems to be born out of past together that was more than friendship.

Hmmm, did she let go, or did he leave her for the next hoe?

Prince orchestrates everything when it comes to his proteges, from the clothes they wear, their names and even the way they sing the songs he wrote for them. For all we know, he could have told Sheila back in the day to say they were an item.

I don't take things "other" people say or things I read on the internet very seriously. Heck, I could say that back in 1987 I met Prince and we made out in his limo after a show. The only people who would know if it were true would be me and Prince.

I heard Sheila say, herself, that she had to leave Prince's camp because she got saved and born again, and just couldn't keep performing with him. It felt too wrong to her to be a Christian, and yet be on stage singing about the "F-word."
