As price performs purple rain he kisses wendy on the cheek, wendy then gives him a weird look ..in interviews has she ever said she was joking? did anybody else notice it?

I've always noticed that he kisses her cheek and she screws up her face like she's gonna cry. It's the bit that usually starts the tears for me! I'm sure if you check again, it's a 'I'm gonna cry face!'

I think she's really surprised that he agreed to sing that song, especially after he refused to even listen to it when they first wanted him to.

He kissed Tamar on the cheek during that song, on the Brits, I was surprised that he did that on stage like that, I think Mani was too.

We have to remember, these are not professional actors in that movie--they're band members. It's a miracle it wasn't worse. As a matter of fact, I'd say it was a damned good effort by all involved in the movie, especially Prince.

Don't get me wrong, PR is still a bad movie. But as a rock musical, it's one of the better ones.

.....then he goes out to his bike and stomps up and down in frustration and screws up his face.....but everyones cheering.....and he can hear it from the yard.....and Jill Jones face comes into view..... and she's crying.....I'm crying.....and Prince realises that they love him, and they want more.....



So he goes back!!!!! And rocks that shit!!!!!

I soo agree with you. What's funny/sad to me is just yesterday I was looking through Blockbuster online at the African American classics section and IT WAS NOT LISTED. Believe I was shocked at some of the movies that were ie Soul Plane WTF..

That's a crying face? Dang, I thought she was grossed out or something.

Why wouldn't she give a WTF face? The film certainly established kissing her especially on stage would not be a common experience.

Aside from when she was at his crotch, they were at each other's throats for most of the film.

Purple rain is not a bad movie by any estimation, whether you liked prince or not it was entertaining and funny in places.

I thought it was a wry but pleased look she had.

I thought Wendy's acting in the film was good. I liked her feisty attitude. She needed to be like that. Wendy didn't put up with any crap from anyone.

Actually, if anyone saw Prince's show at First Avenue in August of 1983 which was Wendy's first show with the band, he actually went over and kissed her on the cheek during that performance of "Purple Rain" and this was before the movie was even filmed and the first time many of the songs from Purple Rain were performed live. So what you saw in the movie was definitely not spontaneous, and for the record, her reaction to his kiss at that show did not produce a teary looking expression, so I'm guessing it was added in the movie for the plot line.

You can only tell her look is of surprise and that she's holding back tears. I can't believe how critical so many of you are about Purple Rain and the acting, I thought the movie was brilliant then and still think so. Wendy did amazing in the movie, I mean what were you all doing when YOU were 19 years old?

i was 17 when i loved this the first time! its still one of my fave films but then i liked UTCM when it came out too! they were just fun films with great music and they kinda related to us at that age.

Besides they all did a great job for the first time being in a movie(with the exception of the people who played the his mother and father,they were already actors/actresses)

I personally dont think lisa came across well in the film which is probably why she didnt get much of a speaking part. Plus wendy has always played up more for the stage, she interacts and acts but lisa is very deadpan and serious looking, she hardly smiles. IMO wendy was a good actress and comparable to the other actors who were professionals.

I wasnt slating lisa just commenting that she was no good in the film compared to wendy. the rest of the band werent any good at acting either which is also prob why they didnt get on screen much compared to wendy who had natural presence and chemisty in that film. Lisa definately had a persona if 'im just the musician - dont invlove me with your wierd film shit, im here to make the music baby" She looked like that at the end of UTCM too.

Some people are natural entertainers - IMO and wendys one of them.

I always seen it as an ackward "eww, my brother is kissing me" face.
