A bit too disc-R&B --- fast. The bass could catch the groove if it was slower, and the singer would not seem as "rushed".. You can tell the maturation.. Today, Prince would put so much into that song now that it would not seem as flat.. Sometimes, "flat and simple" works in the marketplace though.. [Edited 5/4/08 7:49am] | |

Wow. I've never even heard of this. Can people elaborate on the context a bit more? | |

[Edited 5/4/08 7:49am] Musically, and lyrically, it fits right in with the material from his second album. The bass line has a Let's Work and Private Joy type of vibe as well. Except P, at that stage, wouldn't have used a real horn section. He would have replaced that with his trademark "horn" sound from his keyboards. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

----- All I know about it is that P wrote it for Ren Woods and then changed his mind and pulled it from her album. We do not know the reason but this is the first time I had a chance to hear it. | |

"I Don't Wanna Stop" is a song that Prince gave to Ren Woods. It originally appeared on her 1982 album 'Azz Izz' but for some reason,Prince decided to remove the track from her album. Thus, latter pressings of her album did not have this song on it.Needless to say,the early pressings of her album are now very valuable.Ren Woods is also an actress who appears in the 1976 movie 'Car Wash'.She's the youung lady who is fighting with her boyrfriend because he decides he's not going to college. | |

I was surprised by the horns in this song.In 1982,Prince didn't mess with horns at all.I know he wrote this song, but did he produce it? Perhaps he gave the song to Ren and she re-worked it with her own producers? | |

Perhaps he gave the song to Ren and she re-worked it with her own producers? My point exactly. That was always my impression. That other producers re- worked the track. Because P would have had the Minni- sound all over that track. And one of the main componets of that sound is P's keyboards. A late 81-early 82 production of Prince would have had that track fitting in with a Vanity6 album sound. I definately hear P doubling the bass line on the hook with a distorted guitar part and his trademark handclaps would have been on the snare drum on the hook as well if P was behind the production. Might have been why he yanked the track; Because of the use of a real horn section. It was printed somewhere that Big Chick said that P once told him that he hated the sound of real horns! This was obviously before 86 cuz Chick was no longer working with P by then. Obviously P didn't hate real horns because of Parade but he sure didn't fuck with them on through 85. I always felt the reason for this was because I think P felt it would date his sound and I think he feared that it would put him in the r&b market. And being in the R&B market to Prince was like catching a disease! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Exactly he did not start using horns until eveyone else started ripping off his keyboard sound. | |

Exactly he did not start using horns until eveyone else started ripping off his keyboard sound. Yep....I always felt that's what brought about Parade anyways. Was him distancing himself from other cats who were taking vicious bites out of P's sound. P saw it coming...He KNEW his 1999 album, The Time's first two albums and his Purple Rain album was going to influence the hell out of pop music in general. And 84 and 85 especially, showed this bigtime. And it wasn't just in the black market either. The pop/rock market was all up in P's 1999 album's sound and style. Or in some form of it anyways. From "Oh Sheila" to "Pseudio", P's sound was becoming hella mainstream. So P felt he had to move on to something else. Zapp, who was already largely established by 85, paid tribute to P more than anything on "Itchin For Your Twitch". That was their version of P's Sexy Dancer. I couldn't believe it when I heard that Zapp track "Itchin For Your Twitchin". I love this album but laways felt that track was such a copy of Prince's sound - now I understand it was an acknowlegement of P. I love that Zapp album - they also give P props on track 1 "Doesn't Really Matter" where they thanks Prince for his sound. God bless Roger Troutman he was wonderful musician and seemed like a good guy. I think along with Nile Rodgers, Roger was the next best funk rhythm guitarist behind Prince of the 80's. | |

People always talk about the value of this album. But no one can state clear whatr it is. Last year i asked about it on this forum but got no replies on it.
And i must say having a spare copy its hard to find someonew intrested in buying. So what is the real value? LechovitZ | |

It is a very rare record... rare as in very hard to find a copy, or ever harder to find two copies for 2 bucks each...
Btw, I think that the track is totally rerecorded by other musicians, it doesn't sound as if Prince is playing on it [Edited 5/7/08 4:27am] [Edited 5/7/08 4:28am] | |

i totally agree with u....Roger trotman is very underrated. Zapp and Roger ttoured with Prince & The Time in the eighties 2 will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. | |
