The Truth at Bunker's (MPLS) May 2nd

According to the Bunkers' website, The Truth will be playing there on May 2nd. Unfortunately, it’s the same night that Sly and The Family Stone are scheduled to play at 1st Ave. Too bad The Truth aren’t slotted to open for Sly…

They released a live album last month. They were selling it during their gig at Bunker's. I'm not sure if there are any plans for a studio recording.

On a related note; I did ask Paul how The Family's cd project was going. He said they had about 3 songs complete and that he and Susannah were going to work on more this month. Sounds like if push comes to shove they may just release some tracks online vs, putting out a cd.

I don't know. I do suspect that if Prince is in town then Sly will ask him and Larry to join them on stage. I really wish these two gigs were on different days.

I'm not certain but music usually starts at around 10pm at Bunkers. Last month when The Truth played there they took the stage just after 10pm - they played a couple of sets.

That would be cool but... Sly is strung-out and completely unpredictable so I doubt Prince will be anywhere near that show.

The Sly concert in the Uk almost destroyed my respect for his music. Was a tribute band with about 15 minutes of Sly hobbling about the stage mumbling into his microphone. So sad.

Hey, I just heard that Sly canceled the First Ave show - scheduling conflict or something..
So I'll be seeing The Truth that night. Anyone else going?

Simm0061, if U go, I really hope U have a good time and give us a report on the gig as well! I would love to hear "The Family tunes, etc." Who knows, maybe SOMEONE will show up. biggrin

Hope U connect with some MPLS fans/fams (whatever U want to call them). wink

Hey ya’ll. Just a little report about The Truth gig last night at Bunkers. First, ya’ll should have been there! It was too funky!

Just a quick mention of the opening band, Druscilla Abernathy & the BKS Vine, I didn’t catch their whole set but will try to see them again soon cause they were funky. And anyone who covers Me'Shell NdegéOcello is cool in my book.

The Truth: Jellybean wasn’t with the band last night (The Time must be playing somewhere?) but Eric Leeds was in the house!! The band was on fire last night! They sounded great!! Paul seemed to be having a great time. He danced on stage a lot and even danced in the crowd for a little bit. They played a little bit of Rick James, Sly and the Family Stone, Prince, The Family, The Time, Madhouse, and they even busted into a bit of the Bloodhound Gang

I can’t remember everything that was played but on the Prince related tip they played a couple of Madhouse tracks (Eric in the house!), The Time: Jungle Love, The Stick (this was fun to hear). The Family: Screams of Passion, River Run Dry, High Fashion, Nothing Compares 2 U, and Mutiny. Prince: Kirk Johnson did a little but of Irresistible Bitch, Controversy, the highlight was D.M.S.R with the crowd dancing and singing along. Then they kept everyone dancing and singing by busting into Erotic City to close out the night.

A truly fun and funky night was had by all. I hope they play again soon! Check’em out!

Oh, Prince wasn’t in the house but Michael Bland was there to check out the first set. I chatted with him a little bit – he’s such a nice guy.

Thank U Simm0061....this was kind of U! smile

I'm so glad U had a good time! I'm sure it was indeed FUNKY!

Anyone that covers Me'Shell.....is cool! I love her music, and her voice, soulful!

Eric Leeds was there, great!...all these musicians get called elsewhere I'm sure - they are IN-DEMAND! He plays with Estaire Godinez when she comes to town, usually in the fall, and @ The Dakota. Check her out if U can.

Nice review, sounds like a real good time. I'm jealous! Did U dance?

p.s. Screams of Passion....did they say "not so loud" ? too funny!

I did nothing but dance!! haha the "not so loud" line was not delivered. That was the one song where Susannah's presence is truly missed.
