Has it been confirmed that Sheila will be there? I understood it as Pete Escovedo's gigs. Of course, with family could mean Sheila too, but she is not mentioned . . . .

Yoshi's SF (never been yet) letyou pick the table. It was Gold Card events too..not sure it hleped but i could've had closest section A but all the way to the left. instead I got a seciton back a little less to the side (though still side).

Yoshi's site just says Pete and Family.... but I think Sheila's site says she is there. I'm wondering the same thing though.

part of the allure of yoshi's is getting there in advance and running to pick a table. it breaks my heart that they have changed that tradition in sf.

I'm the worst at reviews... but briefly, the set was geared more towards the jazz crowd at Yoshis, comprised of earlier Pete Escovedo favorites... there was the usual interplay between Pete and his sons Juan and Peter Michael... like their recent shows in SoCal, a few funk-pop sounding songs were played from an upcoming release with Sheila on lead vocals... she also rapped her solo from "Its Gonna Be A Beautiful Night"!... the set ended with 3 or 4 standing ovations during "The Glamorous Life," "Sex Machine," and a blistering 10 minute drum solo by our girl.

Hey y'all. I just got back today (well actually I got back from the Bay Area Friday night, but then went to NJ for Passover).

Anyway, the concert was great, but --as I kinda expected-- they didn't do any of Sheila's material.

The new Yoshi's SF is REALLY NICE! We had a great table, the 2nd section from the stage, and luckily on the side where Sheila was smile.

This was the 1st set of the whole run (Thurs 8pm). Sheila looked great as usual smile. The set list was mainly latin jazz songs (the only one I really knew was her dad's "Whatcha gonna do"), plus a couple new songs from the new E Family album.

The 1st one was really catchy and I think could get airplay if it's promoted. Sheila sang lead on it. It kinda reminded me of those Santanna songs that have guest vocalists (Michelle Branch, Rob Thomas etc.)

The other one Peter Michael sang lead...and SHeila played the trap drums kit and did backgrounds which sounded so good they almost sounded pre-recorded but I'm sure they weren't.

The band was very tight....Juan and Peter Michael holding down percussion with Pops and Sheila. Peter Michael and Sheila took turns on Drums, bongos and timbales. They had a 3 piece (maybe 4) horn section and a guy on keyboard playing acoustic piano. All the musicians were superb!

I had a feeling the early show wouldn't get into any of Sheila/Prince stuff but at the end after everyone left the stage, Sheila started a solo on the drum kit, and she had started a funky beat.....

my co-worker and her husband LOVE KRUSH GROOVE..... and I was like we should scream out "Rock Rock, c'mon!" (from Holly Rock)..... but I'm not the type to do that smile. Plus, as a musician, I wouldn't want to disturb her groove.

Nevertheless, Peter Michael came back to the mic for a second and as a joke started Erotic City in a faux Prince voice, saying "All of my purple life" and then just laughed! smile

I wore my Family Jamm t shirt (under a cashmere hoodie smile ) and my co-worker was like "She recognizes you" cuz she kinda smiled our way, and we were very close but I dont' think she really did.

I looked for Lynn but didn't see her. I did chat with Zina for a bit at the merchandise table.

For those who saw the other shows, when they did Glam Life was it a full on version?..... and was Sheila on Timbales or the drum kit when they did it?

I'm always curious to see it done live because we do it in my band and we don't 'have any horns.... just me on keyboards smile
