The Time Jacksonville Funkfest April 5, 2008 review

I went and saw the Time at the Funkfest in Jacksonville, FL on April 5, 2008. This was my first show this year and my 37th overall.Jason and Ashley got to my house at about 9:45 a.m. We loaded up the truck and after I bought some ZZ top tickets that went on sale at 10 a.m. ,we started the long drive to Jacksonville. Let me just say that the gas prices are insane. We filled up the Bronco and it took 96 fucking dollars. The drive absolutely sucked. It rained all 350 miles from one end of Florida to the other and I have never seen so many people that had no clue on how to drive in the rain. We finally get to Jacksonville and after we got off the interstate Ashley spotted this sign that said MOSH. Well I have seen No Moshing signs at concerts before, but never a Mosh street sign so we thought this was hilarious. We found our hotel and got checked in.

The rain had cleared up so we ventured out of the hotel and backtracked to the Mosh sign where we took some Beavis and Butthead style pictures. We then went back to the room and finished getting ready for the show. We went down to the lobby and waited on the fellas. We greeted all the members and caught up with them. A short time later we followed them to the show and hung out with them in the room provided for them. This was an outdoor show and it had been raining off and on all day. The whole situation was a mess. Luckily the stage was covered and after what seemed like forever the show was finally on. We followed the fellas and got a good spot on the side of the stage.

Here is the lineup

Morris Day-Vocals and Cool
Jellybean Johnson-Drums
Monte Moir-Keyboards
Tori "Freak Juice" Ruffin-Guitar
Ricky "Freeze" Smith-Bass
Jeff McNeely- Keyboards
Silvester Donald-valet and dancer
Daniel Joo-valet and dancer

Here is the setlist
1. DAT Intro
2.The Skillet
3. Cool
4. Get it up
5. Pandemonium
6. Chocolate
7. Wild and Loose
8. The Stick
9. Fishnet
10. The Oak Tree
11. Jerk Out
12. 777-9311
13. The Walk
14. The Bird
Encore
15. Jungle Love

Every time I get one of these side views, I appreciate Jellybean and Monte even more. Normally we get in the crowd and camp in front of Tori so our eyes are on him and Morris all night so we really don't catch the other guys that much so its Cool to have that different angle every once in awhile and see Monte do the steps and Jellybean just pound the shit out of the skins. Two drummers my ass, Bean throws down on 777-9311 all by himself thank you very much. We went back to the VIP area again and hung out with the fellas some more. A short while later we went back to the hotel. After freshening up, we back to the bar, grabbed some victuals and hung out with the fellas some more. Finally we went back to the room and crashed out sometime after midnight.

That had to be the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in a hotel. I never sleep more than a few hours in one and this time I actually got 8 hours. We checked out shortly before noon and got back on the road. Of course we are starving and it took us not one, not two, but three attempts to get some waffle house food. You gotta love it. After what seemed like another endless drive, we finally got home concluding yet another road trip. Thanks to all the fellas for the great hospitality before and after the show and of course for playing the actual show under less than ideal conditions. I'm looking forward to show 38 popping up in the near future

Maybe i'm cranky this morning, but there's a HUGE difference between "The Time" and "Morris Day and The Time".

I love "The Time".
I don't like "Morris Day and The Time".

if Jesse and Jimmy and Terry and JEROME aren't there, i'm NOT INTERESTED.

MD&The time are still worth the ticket price but the orignal members are stellar, no doubt

Wow, you guys are really compartmentalistic. Jimmy and Terry haven't been part of the Time since they got fired. Where have you been? They will NEVER go back to that box and I don't blame them. That would be like Ice Cube and Dr. Dre going back to NWA if Easy were still alive. Why would any person with more success attained on their own than with a group want to go back? The original Time ain't happening other than on occasions. Face facts, fellas.
Now I haven't seen them since the valet change or since Chance Howard left and they didn't do Skillet the past few times I have seen them, so I'm kinda curious to see how the changes have affected the band.
Thanks for the rundown Rhastus. Glad you had fun. The level of fun at an outdoor show usually depends on the weather. Hopefully, it'll be sunny at the next one. I rarely get to see the fellas, so be glad you get to go about once a year.
