[Edited 3/24/08 11:05am] Agreed. Between this cut and 100 mph, it didn't get no better as far as I was concerned.

Cool...Is he working on "new" material with Lenny for his own material or for Lenny's & Paula's? Yeah, I always thought that the bassist for MZ, Romeo, was tough. Great bassist. A LOT like Mark,...playing wise and visually. He was the perfect bassist for a group like MZ. He would have been a good replacement for Mark in P's band actually. He had the musical chops and the right image. Levi seemed like a nice cat and he could definately play...I just never thought he really "fit" P. Same with Miko. But I know Levi came in playing with Sheila so that helped in getting in P's band. Especially when Sheila joined playing drums. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. He wrote a few songs for lenny(very tight), and working with matt on a few projects, but lately hes been working on his own music. I heard a few tracks and theyre awesome. i agree, romeo was bad as hell.

Dexter Haygood. Prince borrowed from Xavion, too. Erotic City may have come out at the same time but Xavion's album was done in 83. (that's all I'm sayin' on that one) Xavion was a real breakthrough for black rock. They were Living Colour before Living Colour.

I thought it was a pretty good album, thought I did have a hard time tracking it down at the time. I remember seeing the video for "Eat Your Heart Out" a few times too. I did read a really short peice about the band in an antholgy of articles from Rock and Roll Confidential. The writer thought the lead single had all the makings of a rock radio hit, and that racism might have had a hand in why the record didn't get over. At least that the way I interpreted the article.

I was anticipating the Mazarati album for the longest time in high school before it was released. I really liked "Player's Ball" at the time, but when I listen to the album again now, I like a lot of the other tracks more. It wouldn't make my top five if I were to rank all the songs on the album in order.

Definately the best album to come from the Paisley Park label. Even better than all the Prince albums on the Paisley Park label. Andy is a four letter word.

Mazarati was the shit! Rock&Soul! That whole album was nice to the Nth degree. The slow cuts were the shit as well - Lonely Girl on Bourbon Street = That intro verse is as much haunting as it is tight. Strawberry Lover is the shit as well. I Guess It's All Over was tight as well.
But the bump was 100MPH! Me and my buddy used to pump that shit whenever we rolled in his truck - He'd always say "Yo, make sure you bring the Mazarati tape when I scoop you up!" Their gear didn't bother me because that was the style of the whole camp around that time. NuWave/Punk/Soul/Rock style. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

One of my deepest regrets is that I never picked up their album back in the day. Loved 100MPH and Player's Ball but didn't buy the album like a idiot. Now I only have faint memories of those songs. Those were the days when one of P outside groups would drop any album and I would be at the store that day picking it up but I didn't with this one. I bummed out now.

I have the album on vinyl but I regret that I never bought the CD.In 1986,I didn't even have a CD player yet! I was still into vinyl and cassettes. But I remember seeing the CD in stores. If I had bought it,it'd probably be worth alot right now, lol.

Love, love, love MZ. So true about the double standard with the image. Poison and Cinderella wore more make-up and hairspray than MZ conbined. I loved their look. 100MPH and Player's Ball are my faves. I had the album on vinyl, until my mother found it and burned in the yard. Seems the front pic looked like a demon.
There are a few vids on youtube. I was debating the lyrics for the song with someone who couldn't believe the lines... There's a fairytale that says Twice in the Land of Oz Dorothy made love 2 the Lion Because because... They haven't logged into their myspace page since 10/07. Yes, The Family CD was an import - Japan. I saw it back in 93 at a record store and didn't have the ducketts to buy it so I just thought I'd come back the next day and get it. WRONG! GONE! LOL!
