After rockin' out to Modernaire and Dez's demo of After Hi School, I was sorely let down by She Loves To Video.

The title in itself had way too many possibilities, but there's something I can't quite put my ear to that makes the song so lackluster.

And u know Jedi, P ISN'T going to speak on it officially. Dez has always come across as very credible to me. At least he has no track record of ever being accussed of lifting something from somebody. If Dez says publicly that something went down, I have no reason to doubt him.

I've stated on this site several times in the past that my all time favorite song by Prince is When Doves Cry. To this day, I think it's a masterpiece. I've written several threads about this song. I've even written threads about the guitar intro to the song....THAT'S how much love and respect I have for this song. It's one of the greatest singles in the history of pop music. So understand, when I read about Dez giving the scenerio of how in 83, LONG before the music to the Purple Rain film was even close to being finished, Dez and his new band had a show out here in L.A. And while P, Lisa and Wendy were out here recording some tracks at Sunset Sound, they went to go see Dez perform. One of the songs Dez did that night was "She Loves To Video". Which Dez claims without a shred of doubt that P lifted from for When Doves Cry. Doesn't matter...WDC is a fucking classic.

Sure, I can see when P was riding in the car from the concert and Lisa and Wendy are talking, P was humming Dez's cut in his head. As soon as he got to a keyboard, he simply turned it out. The biggest thing I believe P took from She Loves To Video is the idea to NOT use a bass guitar track. Initially, P actually recorded a bassline for it. But in the mix, he pulled it out.

Just listened to "She Loves To Video" and I'm hard pushed to find any similarity.
