Yea right I am hateful for calling your out on your unsupportive gossip and hearsay !!! eek Your not above being questioned.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but Blackguitaristz has worked with Morris Day and Andre Cymone before. He has hung out with these guys and shared stories with them.I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his comments as "unsupported gossip and hearsay",since he has actually talked to people who were THERE! Furthermore, his threads and comments are always filled with alot of great information, insight and details, which is more than can be said for your hate-filled,childish posts. You never engage in a conversation in a positive, friendly way.You just jump into the conversation, accusing folks of lying and making up shit.

Hey Soul, dig, thanx for the kind words but really, we've already spent too much time on this. Simply put, she's not worth it, player.

"waiting to chime in with some negative bullshit."

Just about all your post concerning Prince are negative. I am one of the few that calls you on it and that is the problem. Get over it.

That was a joke right? Because blackguitaristz is definitely one of the, if not the most, informative and interesting people on this board and he knows his stuff when it comes to P especially the pre-purple rain era.

Thanx Majestic, but the same thing that I told Soul goes for u too... Don't even trip, brah.

Before this turned into the blackguitaristz and laurarichardson waltz, this was a pretty interesting thread! lol

Back to the part about why Modernaire didn't get a release. Off the top of my head, I'm sure I remember reading in the booklet that came with the retrospective CD set Dez alluding to the same thing that blackguitaristz mentioned back on page one - about how something happened at WB and it resulted in the album/single not happening, and it wasn't spelt out, but you could get the jist of what he was saying, in that Prince pissed on that fire.

It's peaked my interest now, so I'll have to have a root around for my copy tomorrow. lol

Yep, That was another thing that made me hark back to the cat that I knew who had worked at Warner's during the 80's. He had told me this long before I was even hip to Dez releasing any type of a retrospective set. Or Dez's book or Dez anything for that matter.

You should really consider calling it quits in these parts -- it's obvious you're in a losing race.

Dez was never signed by a record label. A few showed interest, but none came through in the end. So no "Modernaire" for us. sad

Now Dez has since lost the master tapes and had to copy "Modernaire" onto disc from an old cassette tape for his Retrospective 2CD a few years ago.

I'm so out of the loop....did Dez really release a 2-CD retrospective? What's on it?

Thanks Brutha B for that info. Had NO clue all of that stuff went down with Dez and WB. Still scratching my head on how WB decided at the end of the year to not release Dez's LP. In Dec 84 the "P.R" LP (from what I can remember) was still selling strong, the movie was doing great and there were rumours about a sequel being made for late 85.

All the solo joints (A6, The Time, Jesse, and anything P related) were doing great in 85. WB really missed out and Dez's management should have pushed more for a release. I remember reading a Dez interview (in a 84 "Right On!" P special) that the LP was done and he was starting to get the "new wave Jimi" title by critics. People were cheering in the theater when Dez and his band were onscreen in "P.R." so he would have done just fine. Guess you could call it poor planning and timing.

A RETROSPECTIVE 1982-1987

Disc 1
1. Modernaire
2. I Like The Beat
3. (Is This) Pop Music
4. The Sound Of Breaking Hearts
5. After Hi School
6. Make It Boy
7. This Morning
8. Good Time Tonight
9. Our Time
10. Kiss It Goodbye
11. Hotter Than The Sun
12. Do You Remember
13. ‘Til All The Tears Are Dry
14. She Loves 2 Video
15. One More Chance

Disc 2
1. When U Were Mine
2. Until It All Falls Down
3. Can We Connect
4. What Makes Your World
5. No Turning Back
6. Never Wanna Be The 1
7. I Will
8. Chasing The Big Beat
9. What I Am
10. The Choice
11. High Tower
12. If You're Lonely
13. Maybe
14. Remember Me
15. Tear After Tear
16. Stranded In Babylon

I don't think it's bad despite what some others have said about it. It is however extremely dated. If you like cheesy 80s pop rock (and I do sometimes) then it's worth hearing.

So these are songs that Dez recorded on his own, after he left Prince's band? Did he ever release any album in the 80s?

It's worth picking up the retrospective if you like 80s pop rock like Pat Benatar or Billy Idol. It's quite commercial, he could've been at least a one hit wonder if he'd been given a better chance at the time. There's nothing else really as 'Princely' as Modernaire on there though.

NO.....CALL IT THE "PRETTY HATE MACHINE" THAT IS PRINCE!!! HE WOULDN'T DARE GO UP AGAINST THE FOLKS AT A&M (NAMELY JOHN McCLAIN) OVER JESSE'S PROJECT. OR THE FOLKS AT WB OVER MORRIS' IMPENDING SOLO SUCCESS. SO DEZ WAS THE SCAPEGOAT FOR SOME "HATIN' ASS SH*T"!!!!!
TRUE....DEZ' MATERIAL DOESN'T/DIDN'T SOUND ANYTHING LIKE P'S. BUT DID HE DESERVE TO GET SH*T ON???? HELL NO!!!!! HE PUT IN WORK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DID IN THE CAMP!!!!!

It would have been a huge hit back then though. I mean now how much 80's music sounds great now?
