Carmen Electra's Album

It must have been about 1995 when I last listened to this album.

My memoroies of it were that it was an embrassing piece of shit.

For some reason today when I went to my CD's to pick one for the drive to work I picked this.

Anyway it surprised me.

Some of the music is pretty Funky. There are some nice horns at times and some decent guitar work and funky arrangements. I'm not saying it's good but just not as nearly as bad as I thought.

The main problem is of course Carmen rapping and the use of samples which really date it.

The songs I thought were decent were GO GO Dancer ( reminded me of Thunder), Good Judy Girlfriend, nice little bit of mpls sound syth in there towards the end (even though it's tiny) Fantasia Erotica, Fun and Little bit of Lovin'.

This is my house was as dreadful as I remember, those lyrics and the delivery are awful.

I'm might even listen to Children of The sun Soon which I also remember being pretty rubbish.

The MUSIC on this album is very tight and funky and meticulously well-produced

The voice covering it is awful.

I like especially "Good Judy Girlfriend", the intro is crazy. Some tracks are basically built on James Brown or Ohio Players samples.
"To Listen to her music is like to come a thousand times" or something like that was used in D & P pre-concert clips....now that's a bit of exaggeration.

The music is tight... NPG at its best.

Have U heard the outtakes on "Fantasia"?

See, the great thing about being a Prince fan is that everyone likes something different.
Sonny, Levi, Morris,... those guys jammed together.

But, whatever. U have your ideas, I have mine. neutral

Guilty to loving Good Judy Girlfriend and Everybody Get On Up.

While we're on the subject, am I the only one confused as to exactly what's going with her body on the album cover?

madhouseman

there were parts of the album that were pretty fun.

Overall, I didn't like much of Prince's output in the 90s, but Carmen has probably been one of his most successful associates. Don't ax me why, but she is!

I think she is stunning to look at. I saw her in Glam Slam Ulysses and she used to hang out at the Glam Slam and just talk to people. That was fun when she'd come up to our table and sit and talk to us.

Good times!

The only decent song on the entire album is "Get On Up". She was the worst Prince protegee ever, even worse than Tony M. At least he had some dick. She had absolutely nothing to offer whatsoever. lol

I have yet to make it through this album in its entirety. It makes me laugh, and then it makes me cringe, and then I have to shut it off. lol

It's a paradox in a way---she was the protege with what is arguably the worst album, yet she is also the protege with the most successful post-Prince career.*

Yeah, that's true.Carmen is one of the few Prince proteges who proved that there is life after him.She became a big star in the late 90s,largely because of her looks.

From Wikipedia:
"Tara Leigh Patrick (born April 20, 1972), professionally known as Carmen Electra,[1] is an American glamour model, television personality, dancer, singer, actress and sex symbol mostly known for her work with Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer on Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans and appearance in Baywatch as Lani McKenzie . . . Patrick moved to California in 1991, where she met Prince while auditioning for an all-girl rap group. Prince persuaded her to change her name to Carmen Electra and instead record a solo album. Soon after, she signed a recording contract with Prince's company Paisley Park Records, marking the start of a short-lived singing career."

Can I get a witness with this funk with the quickness?
Microphone swiftness is my business
Checkin' out the brothers with the funky stride
U don't wanna dance honey, drip step aside
As I move 2 the left can I get a little (funk)?
As I move 2 the right can I get a little (funk)?
2 times in the center as I kick a riddle
My name is Carmen Electra and I ain't in the middle
This kind of funky beat is what I dream
So if U want 2 get a feel of this cream
Hop 'til U damn near drop
This the jam y'all, get on up

lol
