TOO SEXY: A Great Track by Sheila E

Does anyone remember 'Too Sexy', the B-side of 'The Belle of St. Mark'?

That is a stone cold jam! (Sorry, been listening to some James Brown lately!) I'm missing some good stuff like this.

A real treasure.
Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

Oh, yeah, I remember that song and still love it. Sheila had great b-sides.

Love the ending..."You thought I wasn't...ha!"

Most of Sheila E's b-sides out of the Prince-era are top-notch.
Save The People
Too Sexy
The World's Too High
Paradise Gardens

Did I miss any?

DOH!
Who you think that is? The entire record, except the percussion and the ever so slight vocals is Prince. Prince. Oh, and Prince.
Play it back to back with Shortberry Strawcake. And the extended part of JB and Aretha's duet Gimme Your Love.

Actually, someone just told me that Sheila wrote this with Stef Birnbaum (Burns), her guitarist at the time. He co-wrote this with her and penned all the guitar melodies. It might be 'Prince' inspired, but it's Birnbaum's work. nod

This is my first time hearing this and I am loving it. Even after all of these years, that particular "Prince Era" sound get me just as excited as I would have been in junior high when all of this music was being released. This is another reason why I would love to get my hands on the music from "The Vault".
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Oh, my! Yer right! LoL
It's still a Girlsongs ASCAP song, though.

But you could have fooled me. Serious.

LOVE the song.

And in retrospect; alot of her b-sides don't have Prince.

I love, love, love Paradise Gardens and Too High and they dont have much Prince on them either, except the sound.

Save The People was co-written by Birnbaum as well.

GUESS WHAT!! I just saw a live performance of Too Sexy from the 80's Glamorous Life Tour. They did a funky jam and Birnbaum tore the s**t out this. This is defo his joint. He locked it in!! And Benny R ripped that bass up! lockdance

Exactly. I wanted to see just HOW many folks on here was going to swear untill the cows came home that it was P on guitar. Stef was a bad dude on axe. And could seriously imitate P's vocals as well. The screams and the whole 9. He had a good voice. If ya'll ever saw when Sheila was on SNL doing A Love Bizzare when Sheila was trying to play guitar, Stef is the blonde hair cat on axe singing P's vocal part to the song.

Yes! I would match him against anyone. He can play Jazz Fusion, Blues, Funk, Metal, Rock. This dude is VERSATILE. And Yes, I remember the SNL performance. He totally screams and does a mean vocal on that. Out of all of them, I think him and Benny have done the best career-wise. I think when he played with Satriani and Steve Vai for a one-off performance, that was awesome.

He's hardly recogisable now, not because of age, but because of the hair! And he has just released an album. www.myspace.com/stefburns1

Joe Satriani & Steve Vai, Stef Burns

it'd be nice if prince gave credit to more than just the originator
the completed work is a big improvement upon just the linn, pitched-up guitar, and synth hits

True, but I thought that as a writer, it is your concept. In this case, 2 people co-wrote, Sheila & Stef. The other players do help to bring it to light. But you have to start somewhere, and writing is it.

Benny is one the greatest bassplayers! I've seen him many times, playing in the Santana Band.I also enjoyed his solo CD,released several years ago.As far as I know,he still plays with Santana. They start a new tour pretty soon.

In the 12" the right peoiple get the right credit. It's credited to Sheila, Levi, Benny and Stef. So.

I actually never checked and it sounds SO spot-on Prince. I love the Sheila E band. No wonder Prince stole her personnel all of the time.

Boni, Renato, Levi.
