Jill Jones should have been a star. It's hard to imagine that of all Prince's women, Jones had one of the least successful careers. I think her main problem was that Prince waited too long to produce her 1st album. I don't know about all the songs, but the G-Spot song was 4-5 years old by the time it appeared on Jones' album! I believe it was originally one of the tracks that would have been on the 2nd Vanity 6 album, but after Vanity left it just sat around until Prince finally gave it to Jill Jones. If her debut album had come out in 1984 or 1985, I think she would have been a hit with the public. | |

SoulAlive and myself have posted in depth about this very subject MANY times on here. As far as J.J. being fine, that's an understatement. Jill was fine as hell back in 82 when she first hit the spotlight, a side from touring with Teena. Jill, besides P, was the star of the 1999 album. Her vocals on that were fantastic. She originally had a much bigger role in the film Purple Rain but for some freak reason, her part was cut down and Wendy, a newcomer, got the bulk of the lines. By far, she had the most lines in the band. Which I always found to be weird. But Jill is miles ahead in looks compared to Beyonce, Alicia, Rhianna, whoever. I totally agree.Her album took too long to come out.By 1987,songs like "G-Spot","All Day/All Night","Baby You're A Trip" and even "Mia Bocca" didn't sound fresh anymore.It was obvious that those songs had been around for awhile.The whole "G-Spot" concept was new and provocative in 1983/84.If the song had been released around that time,it would have resonated with many people  By 1987,it was old news.

I agree her debut album should have been released in 1984/5 when she was still fresh in peoples minds from Purple Rain. She could have been as big as Sheila E. | |
