No. It makes plenty of sense. Prince and Andre are from the same school of music. They can steal the feel or the vibe of a song and still make it their own. Andre bit the P-Funk vibe but its not an exact copy. Prince took THE SONG from Andre and therein lies the difference. Prince has bit the vibe of songs many, many times before and that became his standard practice but prior to that - he stole; plain and simple. Ask Charles where's his drums at? "Prince got 'em"

Let's not forget that Prince was also like Black is describing Andre to be like. Forget the last few years of P suing everyone for everything....Everyone was duplicating Prince's sound in the 1980s. In 1985 Ready For the World's 'O Sheila' sounded EXACTLY like Prince s9inging about Sheila. We all know how influential P was and how many enjoyed living off his sound both in Minneapolis and out. I beleive Blackguitaristz recollection of 'do me baby' and how Andre wrote it. I hate to say that b/c that has to be one of my all time fav songs by him...the melody, the arrangement, and of course, the way the man sings it! INCREDIBLE.

I read an interview of Miko Weavers where he says something about how P has so manyy ideas that he'd sometimes play a lick that he got from Prince before and P wouldn't even recognize it. So, although he took Do Me Baby, he sure can't be called a rip off artist. So let's end that talk.

If Prince did not have integrity, he'd be selling DVDs of his old concerts by the dozens right now to bank on his past. He won't do it b/c it's cheap to make money of the old days...at least that's what he probably thinks.

It does no good to mention that P did a lot for Andre's Mom. It was Andre's mom that took Prince in not Andre.

All of the stories about P doing for Andre's mom came from his mom.

I think it was Blackguitarz that mentioned Prince asked Andre Cymone if he could record "Red Light" and include it on the 1999 album. Andre of course said no. There is no way in hell I'm gonna believe that Prince had that much nerve to rip off his former band mates song "Do Me Baby, release it on an ablum, and in less than a year ask the same band mate he stole a song from if he could record "Red Light". Why ask for permission? If Prince was that bold, he would have just ripped off "Red Light" as well and told Andre to go fu@k himself. He didn't sue him for Do Me Baby, so what would have made Prince think that AC would have sued him for "Red Light"?

As in many stories (especially a story that is almost 30 years old) there is probably a lot that has been left out or added to the story. None of us know if Prince sent AC a couple of checks after the song's release, none of us know what deal those two had in place....

I think P has told Dre some things that he's never told any one else. Dre knows the "real Prince as well he should. I think that's why P ended up taking Do Me baby cuz he was hurt that Dre actually wanted to leave Prince. To P, it was more than just Dre leaving the band. To P, it was Dre was deserting him. Bailing on him. I think P relied on Dre emotionally. Especially at that stage. P wasn't just pissed, but he was hurt. So he lashed out at Dre the best he could. He couldn't jump on Dre...Andre would whoop Prince's ass. So he took Dre's cut. Remember, Dre was there through the end of the Dirty Mind tour. Then he bounced. Then Controversy came out. P was hurt and wanted to pay Dre back for quitting. That's really what that was about.

Andre was definately the baddest to ever come from the Prince camp in terms of talent, attitude, and looks. Andre was the first to not take no shit from Prince, leave on his own rather than being fired, and have a semi successful career of his own and a very successful career as a producer. I can definately see Prince stealing from Andre and I also can see Prince considering Andre as a threat. Prince was a fool to let that one get away.
