[Edited 2/13/08 7:11am] Hazel was still alive for years after this song had been released and I know he heard it, being that the Funk Mobe were fans of P's. "Icka Prick" from "Electric Spanking" was about Dirty Mind era Prince. Clinton said this. Anyway, Hazel wouldn't have had a case because the two songs don't sound shit alike. Granted, it's the same chords, but that's it. And two, Prince knew that Dre's song was a bite from Frantic Moment. A tasty bite, indeed. Last time I talked to him (about 5 months ago) he was working with this lady who does neosoul. Kinda like Jill Scott. it would be cool if his stuff could be released on c.d. i hear that he has a 4th album floating somewhere. andre is a good musician and producer he should come out with some new material. going through high school i always did like his music it, sad that peeps dog him out time after time about the early days and what he was trying to convey in his music. if you ever talk to him again by any chance tell him there are alot of us "new wavers" that still sing about kelly,s eyes and that we are still mastering the dance electric. andre as a fan of yours i say thanks for making it easier for a guy like me to grow-up and understand whats it like to make a lone statement like you did.if you ever record again i will be first in line to buy whatever you record. jimmie v.

Andre bit the P-Funk vibe but its not an exact copy. Prince took THE SONG from Andre and therein lies the difference. Prince has bit the vibe of songs many, many times before and that became his standard practice but prior to that - he stole; plain and simple. Ask Charles where's his drums at? "Prince got 'em"

Let's not forget that Prince was also like Black is describing Andre to be like. Forget the last few years of P suing everyone for everything....Everyone was duplicating Prince's sound in the 1980s. In 1985 Ready For the World's 'O Sheila' sounded EXACTLY like Prince s9inging about Sheila. We all know how influential P was and how many enjoyed living off his sound both in Minneapolis and out. I beleive Blackguitaristz recollection of 'do me baby' and how Andre wrote it. I hate to say that b/c that has to be one of my all time fav songs by him...the melody, the arrangement, and of course, the way the man sings it! INCREDIBLE.
I read an interview of Miko Weavers where he says something about how P has so manyy ideas that he'd sometimes play a lick that he got from Prince before and P wouldn't even recognize it. So, although he took Do Me Baby, he sure can't be called a rip off artist. So let's end that talk. If Prince did not have integrity, he'd be selling DVDs of his old concerts by the dozens right now to bank on his past. He won't do it b/c it's cheap to make money of the old days...at least that's what he probably thinks.

It does no good to mention that P did a lot for Andre's Mom. It was Andre's mom that took Prince in not Andre.
All of the stories about P doing for Andre's mom came from his mom. kaptainkrunk said: yall keep saying how prince did andre wrong but its been stated in past innerviews by morris, wendy and dez that prince keep people on the payroll years after he let them go and andre was one of em and ive read how prince would send andre mom stuff 4 mothers day and various gifts so if it was all so bad andre could of sued or did something

I discussed this a couple a months ago.... I think it was Blackguitarz that mentioned Prince asked Andre Cymone if he could record "Red Light" and include it on the 1999 album. Andre of course said no. There is no way in hell I'm gonna believe that Prince had that much nerve to rip off his former band mates song "Do Me Baby, release it on an ablum, and in less than a year ask the same band mate he stole a song from if he could record "Red Light". Why ask for permission? If Prince was that bold, he would have just ripped off "Red Light" as well and told Andre to go fu@k himself. He didn't sue him for Do Me Baby, so what would have made Prince think that AC would have sued him for "Red Light"? As in many stories (especially a story that is almost 30 years old) there is probably a lot that has been left out or added to the story. None of us know if Prince sent AC a couple of checks after the song's release, none of us know what deal those two had in place....

Yeah, it was me who said that P wanted to do Red Light for the 1999 album. Cuz it's true. That in no means says that P didn't take Do Me, which he did. I've stated on here a few times that Dre and P were close. Even as going so far to state what I 've gathered from Dre as to why he actually didn't go after P with a lawsuit. I have no doubt that to this day, they still don't keep in touch. They were never enemies. I can easily see where P wrote some checks and mailed them to Dre for Do Me. Doesn't put P in the clear, but I can see him doing that, sure. As far as P "asking" Dre for Red Light doesn't show how bold P is as much as it shows how close Dre and P were at that time. I think their relationship really are like two brothers who are close. If one made a play for the other's girlfriend and after ya'll broke up, he slept with her. There would be words and maybe even a shove or two. But if ya'll were really close to begin with, there's going to be forgiveness. I truly think that was the case with Dre and P. Andre is VERY similar to Prince. I say that to say that no matter what, no matter how big P had gotten, P always knew that nobody really knows him like Dre does. I think P has told Dre some things that he's never told any one else. Dre knows the "real Prince as well he should. I think that's why P ended up taking Do Me baby cuz he was hurt that Dre actually wanted to leave Prince. To P, it was more than just Dre leaving the band. To P, it was Dre was deserting him. Bailing on him. I think P relied on Dre emotionally. Especially at that stage. P wasn't just pissed, but he was hurt. So he lashed out at Dre the best he could. He couldn't jump on Dre...Andre would whoop Prince's ass. So he took Dre's cut. Remember, Dre was there through the end of the Dirty Mind tour. Then he bounced. Then Controversy came out. P was hurt and wanted to pay Dre back for quitting. That's really what that was about. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Andre was definately the baddest to ever come from the Prince camp in terms of talent, attitude, and looks. Andre was the first to not take no shit from Prince, leave on his own rather than being fired, and have a semi successful career of his own and a very successful career as a producer. I can definately see Prince stealing from Andre and I also can see Prince considering Andre as a threat. Prince was a fool to let that one get away. Andy is a four letter word.
