THE TIME R BACK 4 THE GRAMMY AWARDS!

'THE TIME' TO REUNITE FOR THE GRAMMYS
Reporting:

John Reger
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)

A classic Minnesota band is having its first reunion in 18 years.

The original members of "The Time" will perform at the Grammys on February 9th in Los Angeles.

"It's an honor," said drummer Jellybean Johnson.

They were Minneapolis northsiders known as "Flyte Time" when Prince re-built and renamed the group in 1981.

"There's tons of memories for us," said Johnson, "from rehearsing on Lake street and playing back at the Legion Hall."

With hits like "Jungle Love" and "The Bird," along with performances in the movie "Purple Rain," they soon became one of the hottest bands of the '80's.

As members split off, a core continued to perform as "Morris Day and the Time."

The original lineup hasn't performed together since 1990, but Grammy-winning Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis will join all the original bandmates onstage next Sunday.

"First these guys are my friends," said Johnson, who is flying to Los Angeles on Monday to start rehearsals. "I can honestly say these guys have been my friends for 35 years."

There's also a news video, featuring old footage of The Time & a new interview of JellyBean Johnson Here. cool

"Umbrella"?

That's not a tribute..

Cameo would've been a better fit for that song.

Still it's not a tribute for them..

The Time could never capture some pre-programmed beats and sounds well..

They were best on songs that did not have those..

Hey, eye just realized that the Newspeople said "The Time haven't per4med in 18 years, since 1990", but they're wrong, the original lineup per4med at the Prince's Rave!... party on Pay-Per-View T.V. back in 1999, so that makes it only 9 years ago actually. confused

I found Pandemonium on cd yesterday.

I'm listening to "JerkOut" right now for the first time in a while.

It'll be nice to see them perform tonight.

The Time's Grammy per4mance with Rihanna 2day reminded me of Prince's per4mance w/Alicia Keys.
