People just can't bring themselves to blame Prince for things they don't like about his music (in this case, his output from the mid to late 90s). I really think the comments made on the org about Kirk and Larry are quite baseless. Both are good musicians and neither put a gun to P's head and told him what to write and perform. Prince does not, nor will he ever, hire bad musicians to play for him (he's too much of a perfectionist). Michael Bland even went as far to say (on the org) that Kirk is the only drummer he really likes in the Twin Cities area. As much love as Michael B. gets on the org, that's certainly saying something. My apologies for the soapbox. I just get irritated with the disrespect on the org for Kirk and Larry (as well as Bobby Z, Cora and Josh Dunham, etc.).

I do not understand the disrespect either. I went to see P a few times with Kirk and Larry in D.C and the crowd was going nuts but what are you going to do

You are right on the money. They are all talented. John Blackwell has lauded Kirk Johnson as well for helping him with his drumming.

I was glad that Kirk "flip the switches" back then for the samples for songs that needed them--- "She's ALways N My Hair"..specifcally..

Forget the accoustic "unplugged" stuff.. Just don't ever use drum machines and synths, if you won't use them in concert.. Make it sound more like the record.
