Does the book even exist?

From what I know, the book exists, but is incomplete. I guess it's a draft? Let's just say there is something that exists, but whether it is complete or will be released or not is a different tomato all together.

This is what Denise Matthews told me over a year ago: The book was $200 because she is publishing it herself, and it is very expensive. She was taking preorders at that time (Fall 2006) and that if anyone ordered it then, it would be ready by Christmas. She was only printing what was ordered. It was to be two books. One was her autobiography, and she didn't say whether or not she was talking about her Vanity days or not. The other was a book of her photos and essays, poems and play she wrote.

I had a bizarre and surreal conversation with her on the phone (she called me), and she rattled off this info about the book, and then spent the next half hour telling me about her battles and how the Lord brought her through them all, then prayed with me. I actually had her phone number, but lost it, and had saved a voice mail from her, but didn't know my phone erases them after a month or so.

Was the book ever printed? Did anyone order it back then and received their copy? I think it's strange the way she is handling this. It's obvious that she couldn't get a publisher and release it the "normal" way.Her problem is that, there really isn't alot of interest in her story. It sounds like the typical rock n'roll tale....living the wild life, almost dying, and then finding God.The only people who would be interested in her tale are the Prince fans who remember her from the Vanity 6 days.In any case, she should either release this thing or stop talking about it.

I didn't order it. It's way too expensive. I told her I couldn't afford that price, and she said if I ordered it in the next couple of months, to send her an email, so she would know it was me who ordered it. There used to be a web page with ordering info on it. Don't know what happened to it.

I never heard of anyone every commenting on whether or not they ordered it and received it.

If she writes the way she talks, she's going to need someone to work with her to write the book succinctly and effectively. I'm not sure a publisher would be willing to make that type of investment in her -- not unless she's willing to give up some info that she's probably not willing to do (about the many celebrities she's known, etc). Also, they'll need to buy rights to some photos for the book, including some that Denise probably doesn't want in there. Now that I think of it, she's probably not much different from Prince when it comes to wanting to erase big chunks of her past. I can imagine she's fought with many publishing offers already, not willing to give in to make the book marketable.

just saying

I see why you didn't order it.$200 is a ridiculous price for a book.

Yah but she cant write a book about "Vanity" and not mention her lifestyle as Vanity and the celebrities. That's just dumb. Vanity was whether she likes it or not.

Sounds like she learned her business sense from Prince!

What a joke. Your gonna get $200. worth of preaching in that book and nothing about Vanity. She doesn't like to talk about that anymore. So why would anyone be interested in her book. Most people want to know about vanity and the the D.M. of the church.

Why is everytime someone works with P, they end up turning to God to sort out the rest of their life. Is he a good or bad influence on people he works with cause they all seem to get messed up?

My feelings exactly! I wouldn't pay $200 for any book, let alone one from a sub-par singer from the past. I'm happy for her that she's cleaned herself up, but who really cares except for some old time Prince fans! $200?? WTF - Crack is whack!
