just wanted to show this song some love.even tho its techinally a prince cut morris makes it his own.prince was so on point in the 1999 days.thats when he was just pulling great songs out his lil purple hat and right.and this song is def.one of them

A classic Time slow jam!!! The second Time album 'What Time Is It' is AMAZING...one of the best albums to come out of the Prince camp.An absolute must-have! I always say that the only Time albums that matter are the first two.

This song replaced International Lover, which was originally done for this album. P changed his mind, kept Lover for himself and came up with Get Lonely instead.

All the while it was intended for Morris to do. But P heard The Time rehearsing the song live and thought "Fuck this!...I'm doing this song!" and that was it.

Let me break down the meaning these songs I had attached to them when I was 12 and 13. I remember clearly that "Oh Baby" was a cut that was playing when I was 13 (I know it's a young age) and I was dating a girl who was 15. I had already lost my virginity to her. The song "Tainted Love" was playing over and over. Man, I was in 7th grade and she was a sophmore in high school. It was only a two year diference but at that age, she seemed so much older than I was. She taught me what time it was, that's for sure. She was definately more experienced. She had been going with a cat who was a little older than she was. Why she liked my little ass, ya'll have to ask her. Anyway, Oh Baby was the cut I would like to put on when I was with her. The "breakdown" part, P's piano and guitar playing all the way from that point up untill the end was just like a climax. That's what that part represents.

"Girl" was the cut that I listened to if we had got into a fight. I would play that. Those strings were cold blooded. Check out The Stones "Fool To Cry" and you'll see where P got his thing from. Deeper still, check out The Players "I Want To Be Free" and see where The Stones ears were at. Anyway, I would listen to those. For some reason Do Me, Baby was where it was at before I got with this girl. So that was a make-out track with girls my age. But P was too much like a girl his damn self on that song. So that always kinda fucked it up for me. At the end, P would be whimpering and saying what the girl should say. "Hold me...I'm so cold." and shit. Huh?!... You're so cold? What were ya'll doing? Fucking outside in the snow and shit? What cat is going to say some weird ass shit like "I'm so cold" after they just got down? You'll have a girl get up and run her ass up out of there after that. P was crazy as hell.

And finally "International Lover". That was a cut I never listened to with the 15 year old. After she showed me the ropes, that school year and all through that summer was cool. But she was going into her junior year in high school and I was just going into the 8th grade. Big difference. So that was it. Which was cool cuz I was ready to put it on the girls now player! Now I had game and could back it up. That's what International was for me. I was the little brother with the jheri curl who could play some Randy Rhodes solos on my guitar and the girls understood and dug that shit. All of that was International Lover for me. Learning the game. How to mack. Playing the shy role when I wasn't shy at all. Flipping it. If I ever meet Prince, I'm telling him all of this shit. He had an influence on me musically but through the music, it hepled shape my personality going through that period from a boy into my teens. The Time and P were a big part of that.

But as far as the "breakdown" part on Oh Baby, P was a genius at actually ecohing a sexual climax in his music. He did it vocally of course, but it's much harder to do it musically. He did it in Oh Baby and International. Musically. He had the build up and then the release.

I think P was sooo into being different from other cats that he went to the extreme. Plus he was into coming off weird. He intentionally did that shit, He wanted girls to think he was weird. Especially then. He also wanted them to think he was crazy. Most girls dug it but there was always that "yeah but I don't know about Prince." I think that's what he strove for.
