Tamar to be in Tyler Perry play: The Marriage Counselor

Tamar set to play Judith in Tyler Perry's next play.

Synopsis:

A marriage is one of the greatest institutions that's universal. Our culture today is designed to create some futile experiences that are hard to overcome in marriage. The #1 urban playwright in the country introduces his newest stage production, Tyler Perry's "The Marriage Counselor" to profile relationships that put the quest to the test and tells the story of how in the end "love conquers all" (or makes you smarter.)
However, before you get to the end, Tyler Perry the comedic mastermind of this genre presents stories of the essence of marriage i.e. love, loyalty, compromise, and dishonesty and stuff like that! Roger Jackson is a hard working good man, an accountant by profession. He takes care of not only his wife Judith but his weed smokin' pop Stanley and her retired bible totin' mom, TT. The two parents living in the same household do not get along. Judith, the professional ivy league educated marriage counselor gives marital advice everyday.

And there's a lot to be said about "giving advice"!The scene switches to the married couples seeking advice. Out of sorts, confused and down right indifferent. Dr. Jackson has an answer for them all…but a turn of events causes the marriage counselor to need some advice once a certain college friend drops in.Interesting enough, you'll find your own personal status…you know-- his needs, her needs and your needs! What makes your marriage sizzle or fiz? Tyler Perry's "The Marriage Counselor" transforms the art of marriage, life and family with this fun fulfilling experience on stage. It is a reflection of what goes on in married life. The tenth production by Tyler Perry is truly a must see event with new extraordinary singing talent that is in fact amazing. Don't miss the 10th stage production. Mr. Perry, a writer, music composer, producer, director, actor, filmmaker extraordinaire has had 9 successful stage productions and 2 collaborations since 1997! AND...4 hit movies and one TV sitcom.

A play!?!? Tyler Perry ain't nothing to sneeze at, but I KNOW she can do better than that. Her new cd is dropping next year, shouldn't she be touring or promoting that?
Oh well...i hope it helps her out...

Talk about clueless. I am not a fan of Mr. Perry's plays but they rack in the money and there is a good chance he could make the play into a movie.

I would not say her carreer is over. It might be just getting started.

for tyler perry. the only people i see in his plays are people who are on their way down the fame ladder or people who know they have little chance of climbing it.

{ Flame removed~ sweeny79} The plays make money therefore, people will be seeing the performers in the plays. Meaning exposure for Tamar. I never said she would be the next Beyonce.

hey that wasn't nice.
ok she'll get exposure. i was just half-wisecracking. i forget people are extra sensitive when it comes to making jokes about anyone that's touched the hem of Prince's garment (unless he had sex with them, of course.) shrug

Got my tix for the show. biggrin

I actually prefer Tamar's voice to Shelby's, especially when singing with Prince . Her voice may not be as powerful but her voice is sweeter and blended better with Prince's voice IMO because she never oversang him as Shelby does sometimes.

I always thought the main reason so many people resented Tamar was because Prince gave her top billing. He didn't do that with Shelby so she didn't get the same criticism.

I wish they would have included New York on the schedule. Probably later. If it comes to New York City, I am definitely going to the show. Babynoz, although I love the way Tamar and Shelby sings as they both have their own unique styles, I have to agree with you that Tamar's voice blended well with Prince's when they sang together, especially on the tracks "Love" and "Incense and Candles" on the 3121 album.

Yep, seen both of 'em live and while I dig Shelby's powerful voice she has a tendency to over sing Prince like on the song Chelsea Rodgers. Rosie Gaines had a powerful voice as well but she was better at adapting her voice to Prince and his material. Same with Tamar. Incense and Candles is a great example even though it doesn't get much love around here. Her vocals enhanced the songs on 3121 without distracting.

I think Tamar is worthy of support and touring with Tyler Perry is good exposure for her...I hope you get to see them in New York eventually.

True, their Prince and Tamar's voices blended well together. Anyway, since you'll be seeing the play before me, I'll be happy to hear your reviews on it and hope Tyler brings the play to NY.

Tamar has been in numerous plays, as well as being nominated for a NAACP image award in 2004 for best performance in a play. She played Tammy Terrel in a play about the life of Marvin Gaye, which really set her career in motion. That is big in the Black Community, She doesnt need the Prince Community support any longer, never really did...

That was cold, man! Hahahahaha...Actually Perry has been quite the svengali lately. His last play was made into a hit movie and rumor has it, he'll star in the latest installment of Star Trek. So Tamar could do much worse..I wish her the best...she seems like a sweet woman with a beautiful bottom...

just cause she's not working directly with Prince doesn't mean she's done..
