As stated on another thread, "Milk and Honey" is 99.9999% certain to be released by Tamar in the USA sometime in the second quarter of 2008.

I am trying to figure out if I want to hear this album because I am a completist, or because I am interested in the jams. Probably the former because I don't really listen to Prince's other albums from that time period very often.

I'd probably get it, listen to it for a few times and sit it next to 3121 and Musicology... on my shelf.

Now that covers my dose of honesty for the day!
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Milk n Honey WILL NOT be released. There are less than 10 (japanese and US combined) copies on the market and it is not yet "widely" circulating. The tracks themself are not worth the ink it took to print the lyrics...except for maybe Redhead Stepchild - which is very similar to American Woman by Lenny Kravitz.

Well I finally got a copy of this album and I have to say I'm very pleasenatly surprised. It's has a Princely vibe throughout and often reminds me of 3121, as you would expect and some lovely small doses of Prince guitar work at times and doesn't pander to modern trends as much as I thought it would, there are few sort of raps I'm not too keen on.

Holla And Shout really reminds me of Love, though not as good

Milk And Honey
Can't Keep Living alone
Kept Woman
Red Headed Stepchild
and
Sunday In The Park

Are all top notch.

In fact there's not one song I'd skip.

I would say if you really loved 3121 (like me) you would like this album

Overall a really enjoyable RnB Pop album and the best protege album since the 1980's far better than Carmen Electra and Mayte

Overall I'd say 7/10.

I have the CD 2, it's no where near better than Mayte's CD or Chaka’s “Come 2 My house”.. however I’m not a fan of Tamar’s voice but I wish she would've stayed with Prince's 3121 band, I believe she was a better background vocalist and performer with Prince than a solo artist and when she left the twins vocals and choreography left with her.

However my biggest gripe with the CD is the lrical content is a bit too childish, immature lyrics like
"let's play house and we can see" who plays house in their 20's/30's.. Lawd have mercy.. in "Holla" she summarizes that she's tired of the celibate life as if she wants a serious person to be with and then by the end of the song she is talking about making them Holla and shout but then kicking them out after they have sex, huh? However Holla does get a little funky the more i listen to it.

the song I do like the most is "Can't Keep Living Alone", the chorus thru me off a bit, it could stand some freshening up I really like the intro but the lyrics she used “I saw the lightening and I heard the thunder” has been used so many times in gospel songs I laughed to myself and thought surely she could’ve come up with a more original line but familiarity can be good sometimes ...

I'm totally confused with the lyrics to "Kept Woman" - if she's a kept woman why is she so sad - she never explains why being a kept woman makes her cry. she sings "I’m a kept woman I don't care", care about what, you supposedly have everything you want?

and on "I Want You" this is just horrific, I don't know if she is trying to make love to GOD or express how much she needs GOD in her life but it comes off like she's trying to seduce The Lord - a weak pseudo faith based song in my opinion – “Holy Ground” is nice – but I always love when Prince writes about GOD

“Sunday in the Park” is the stand out.. if I was Tamar I would re-record “Get Closer To My Heart” and “Milk & Honey’ the same way she performed it live – when sung live they both sound like true R&B tracks on the CD they sound bubble gum.. I never like “Redhead” even when she performed it live, I just don't like the song period whether she wrote it or not.. oh wait one more, what can I say about “First Love” - it started off good however those lyrics haunted me again when she sings "your first love is not always your real love" uh well duh, grammar school lyrics

I think she needs to live a little more and experience a little more of the lovelife before she becomes a lyricist, she has some good melodies just not the right words to wrap around them.. 6/10
