Even one song with orchestras is one too many. I wouldn't get embarassed though. They would simply say that was the period in which Prince had lost his damn mind and I would agree with them and we would all laugh at songs like "Venus De Milo" and "Do U Lie" together. The DJs in the clubs used to make fun of those songs back in the day so it would just be business as usual.

What do you think of those funkier songs though? You give the impression that Prince should burn in hell for not sticking with his earlier style, but tunes from his '86 -'88 period have dated way better than the earlier stuff IMO. For instance 1999 is one of my favourite P albums, but the sound is nowhere near as fresh sounding today as Lovesexy.

They are OK but much weaker sounding than his earlier work. However, the french vibe on some of them made the funk sound a little depressing. Paris just seems like a stuffy depressing place to me.

well - prince is back to business as usual now. How ya like it??? lol

I'd prefer "Do U Lie" 100 times over the crap he's pumping out now.

Many of the albums you mentions are classics in most fan eyes, I think it has a lot to do with "being there" when was released.

Jill Jones was way ahead of its time, but probalby sounds dated now.

Looking back, I would recommend,

Sheila E - Romance 1600
Sheila E - Sheila E
The Family - The Family
The Time - The Time
The Time - What time is it?
Jessee Johnson - Shockadelica
Jesse Johnson - Love Struck
Mavis Staples - Time Waits For No One
Wendy and Lisa - Fruit at hte bottom
Wendy and Lisa - Eroica
Morris Day - Day dreaming

Ya know, I definitely need to hear some W&L stuff. Did he actually write/produce for their albums?

Prince remixed their song "Lolly Lolly" for the single release. That's all.

I count every artist under the Starr Production banner or signed to Paisley Park as an associated artist. Of those albums, my favorites are:

The Time - The Time
The Time - What Time Is It?
Vanity 6 - Vanity 6
Apollonia 6 - Apollonia 6
The Family - The Family
Sheila E - Romance 1600
Mazarati - Mazarati
Sheila E - Sheila E
Madhouse - 8
Jill Jones - Jill Jones
Taja Sevelle - Taja Sevelle
Madhouse - 16
Tony LeMans - Tony LeMans
The Time - Pandemonium
Ingrid Chavez - Ingrid Chavez
