SE: First of all, Prince and I are friends. We are very close and I love him dearly. Your question about “when” we are going to have children is a little silly, don’t you think? However, we make amazing music together. He has often referred to his music as his children, so when we create together, we make great musical babies. If, by the stretch of anyone’s imagination, we had a child, no doubt, he or she would be blessed, anointed, extremely talented, and very beautiful.

3121: WE ALL GET OFF ON UR APPEARANCES AT 3121. HOW MUCH PREP TIME GOES IN2 A PER4MANCE WITH PRINCE?

SE: Not very much. We usually have a sound check and work out a couple of fun ideas then. We have the ability to vibe off of each other while on stage and go from there. Much of what we do just comes naturally for us, and the fact that God has given us an awesome gift. MUSIC!

3121: UR DAD, PETE ESCOVEDO IS A WELL KNOWN, RESPECTED MUSICIAN IN HIS OWN RIGHT. WAS THERE ANY ADDED PRESSURE FROM HIM 2 BECOME A MUSICIAN OR DID HE ALLOW ALL HIS KIDS 2 COME IN2 THE GAME ON THEIR OWN?

SE: Just the opposite. He didn’t want me to become a musician at first. When he knew that I was interested, he wanted me to play the violin and be classically trained. I don’t think he wanted me to experience the “struggle” part of it all. I started to play the violin, but watching him in our home, rehearse and create music, led me to want to play percussion more than the violin. Each of my brothers and sister was highly influenced by my father’s playing. We couldn’t get enough of it.

3121: WHAT IS UR INNERMOST VIEW OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW?

SE: Its not doing to well. The industry as a whole is set up so that the label makes a profit. Not to mention, they’ll try to involve themselves creatively, and ends up damaging the song or the rep of the artist. I’ve had record company exec’s tell me what they thought I should do with a song or two that would have ruined it. Now, there are exceptions of some record EP’s that may have valuable creative input, but as a whole, they don’t. Because there are so many hands in the pockets of the music industry, by the time what’s left gets to artists who make it possible to even enjoy what’s out there, they are left with a great meal and a high five. While the exec’s are purchasing homes and investing in stocks, artist are renting apartments, and sometimes found in the unemployment line. The record company doesn’t give the artist what they are worth, ever. Even those who work for and help run the labels and companies don’t get their fair share either. As for the creative side, much of it is no longer music, but vibe. A lot of the industry is run by those who do it for the hype and so the music gets lost. I saw it happen years ago when I had my first deal. There’s just too much politics. Too much greed. Way too much ego.

3121: IN UR OPINION, WHAT COULD B DONE 2 MAKE THINGS WORK BETTER ON THE BUSINESS TIP?

SE: First make sure that you want to be a part of the industry and determine what you want from it. If it’s a record deal you want, you have to figure out what your end result is. Study and research how the industry works in the area you need to learn about. Surround yourselves with people who support you and share the same passions and goals. Find experienced persons who can give you the advise you’ll need and offer you the tools to make it happen. It takes a village. TAKE YOUR TIME. Never be in a rush to do anything. If you have the talent, there will always be a place for you.

3121: UR BAND COED IS GETTING LOTS OF GLOBAL CYBERPRESS. HOW DEVOTED R U 2 THAT PROJECT AND WILL THEY RELEASE A CD IN THE FUTURE?

SE: C.O.E.D. is my main focus at this time. We are so blessed by the response we’ve been receiving world wide. We have been working on a new CD for a few months now. We have interest from some amazing artists, producers, and labels alike that are ready to come aboard. So tell a friend, we are about to blow up this place real soon.

3121: WILL R DREAMS OF ANOTHER CD COLLAB WITH U AND PRINCE EVER COME TRUE?

SE: We’ve never stopped working together since we’ve become friends in 1978. We will forever make music and collaborate, so the dream lives on.

3121: THE 2 CD’S U’ALL TRULY WORKED ON 2GETHER WERE PURPLE CLASSICS! EVER MISS THOSE ROMANCE 1600 THREADS?

SE: No, that was then, this is a new day now. Well… maybe the boots.

3121: WHAT MUSIC DO U KICK AT HOME WHEN U R NOT GROOVIN’ 2 UR OWN?

SE: Gospel is one of my favorites. I love praise and worship music. Other times, it depends on my mood. Of course I love Salsa, jazz, classical and old school.

3121: PRINCE IS KNOWN 4 HIS SLEEPLESS LIFE. R U AN INSOMNIAC AS WELL?

SE: Who said he was an insomniac? I love to sleep. I don‘t have a problem sleeping. I do understand however, when we get in our creative modes, there is never enough time in the day to do what we so love to do. I always find time to replenish.

3121: WHEN U DREAM- IS THERE A SOUNDTRACK? (CAN U SHARE?)

SE: No. I have gotten ideas of songs from some of my dreams, but no soundtrack.

3121: U LOOK SO YOUNG AND HAPPY ALL THE TIME…A SECRET?

SE: I have given my life to Christ. He takes better care of me than I could ever do myself. The peace that He has given me is beyond anything I could have ever imagine. I eat well (most of the time), drink lots of water, and take vitamins. However, a little make-up in the morning goes a long way. Oh, and photoshop is my best friend (-:
