Jill Jones comments on "charleton disguised as a prince"

From Jill Jones' MySpace blog...

"Feeling appreciated and loved seems to have been my main objective and goal in my life. because of this need i often sought the wrong company in my past and found many a charleton disguised as a prince. my firm belief is that we are all connected somehow in this life-many lessons to learn and grow from. and just what i have learned, is to be grateful and try to not emulate or surround myself with those that do not edify and enrich my life or spirit. thank u for your kind words and thoughts. your heart is very big and i am happy to have a space within it-as u do mine.
Best always,
Jill"

Wow! J.J. looks simply beautiful in that pic. But she was always beautiful, I thought. And as I have said, several times on this very site, that I thought she was drop dead fine and was the best female vocalist P had. And that I thought he was a stone idiot to treat her the way he did. Words that I have heard from folks that would know was that P had gotten physical with Jill in the past, which is a hella no no in my book towards ANY woman. It's no surprise to me that she stated what she did. There are many reasons why the folks that worked closely with P got the fuck on from Prince. He's lucky that he worked with the type of folks that it just wasn't in them to seriously fuck Prince up. And I'm talking about physically. Cuz doing the shit that he did to some of these folks, with different people, his little ass would have been in trouble. Why do u think he employed a motherfucker like Big Chick? On call, 24 hrs a day? Protection against fans? Please. He wasn't THAT popular. Protection from getting jumped on and somebody whopping his ass, that's why.

word
Prince is a horrible person. I mean that. He was having alot of women on the side when he was with her as well!

I hate abuse and i have heard other stuff that prince did but i won't mention becuase i do not have sources.

HOWEVER i do not agree about the ANY women comment. Let's leave it at that though.

It is terrible if he was abusive towards any of these woman and that is a if. However, why did she hang around so long. What is wrong with anyone's self-esteem to sit around while your man has 3 other girlfriends that he sees openly?

If you hang around while someone is mentally abusing you it is has if you are asking for it and you can't really come out bitching 20 years later.

The biggest mistake Prince made with Jill is...he took too long to finish her album! He should have had her album ready to be released in early 1985.Songs like "All Day/All Night" and "G-Spot" would have been new and fresh. He also could have given her another really catchy, commercial track (like "Sugar Walls") that would have propelled her to superstardom. It didn't seem like he treated Jill like a priority. Her album was delayed repeatedly and when it was finally released in spring 1987,there was zero promotion.Considering how close she was to Prince (a lover and friend),she definitely got a raw deal.

That's the point. Prince doesn't stay with women who are strong and confident. Mani got sick of his treatment of her

You are forgeting how young she was at this point and how young girls who think they are in love, (and without a strong mindset and firm sense of self), might see any wrong doing from him as being her fault. Mind control, and mind games are a big part of a abusers game. They like a young girl who they can easily manipulate. They may beat on you, or cheat, and then bomerang it back to the girl, and BLAME HER!!!! This is the standard MO of a abuser. (physical or mental) She might have been young and naive enough to believe it. It might not occur to a young impressionable girl (in love) that he is never going to change. She might have had bad examples as a child of love and though that this was normal. We can never know what made a person act a certain way. I am not saying that this was the case, but could be a reason why. She probably took a while to wise up and grow up, and was out of there.

Kinda goes along with the liner notes in Margie Cox's first edition of Margie's Little Demo where she says, "thanks, but no thanks, to Jesse and Prince!"

prince, the only reason anyone would pretend to be your friend is for their 15-minutes of fame
what other reason would there be
you've proven yourself time and time again to be no friend, indeed!

All the women knew...

Some of them appeared in the same film, and on the same tours 2gether..

Prince was a "big-break $hot"...Women over-look things to remain with men who can possibly make "all of their dreams come true.."

Everybody knows this, but pretend that it's not the truth.

Nobody is innocent..

No modern woman is an innocent little flower..niave and over-trusting...

I expect a "public-clarification" of these comments soon..

It so sad that a bunch of fans read what they wanted to...

That's evil.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking "abuse" when I first read this... And even though she chose to use the word "prince" doesn't automatically mean its the man himself.

Her career never had a chance. It always seemed like Prince was more interested in his other proteges. In 1988,Jill tried to do her own thing and distance herself from the Prince camp. She recorded a bunch of tracks for a second album, with no Prince involvement.Of course,Prince got pissed and didn't release the album.

It might have something to do with Tamara and the Seen. After their second album 'Blueberry Gossip' flopped in 1988,Jesse got bored with them and moved on.Perhaps Margie (Tamara) felt that Jesse abandoned her and the group?

I agree with blackguitarist. Jill was obviously the most talented second to sheila out of all his lover/friend/professional relationships.

She co-wrote "Young girl in Love" with teena marie and is singing the hypnotic harmonies with Teena on the heart wrenching Portugese Love. This is a woman with serious chops and was just in the wrong camp.

It was the funkiest camp and the coolest, but P was in his own world of women and trying to possess the establishment under his own terms. He didn't have time to work with serious people. He was all about image at this point.

For goodness sakes, he had her screaming like a banshee on the entire album. He didn't know what to do with her voice.

I think may have to do with whatever the financial arrangement was while she was in Jesse's camp. I think she also wasn't paid or otherwise compensated for writing
that tune that Jesse produced for Paula Abdul's debut album. She mentions this briefly in an online article I read about her a few of years back that was promoting her CD.

It is not nonsense it is true. All of these chicks knew that P was running around on them yet they hung around to get his help with their careers
That is the thing that is really pathetic.

I agree totally that she was in the wrong camp. She met P when Teena opened up for him and that was it. She was hooked. Teena dug P as an artist but she could have told Jill what was up. But she fell for P. Hard. Because she was impressed with his talent I think more than anything else. Rick would have done her justice much earlier. Rick knew Jill could sing. She's not no Teena and Rick was already doing bonafide work with her. Jill was a free spirit. A flower, u know? Someone who has crazy talent but was in need of guidence. She probably wanted a mentor. Rick didn't have time for that. He didn't have to school Teena nor guide her. Jill probably needed and wanted that so P steped right in. But P is all about control.

hmmm Based on what I've heard from both camps, I'll say that your assessment is accurate.
