PANDEMONIUM Alright.....Finally found this cd ...again...for .99 cents After listening to it...again I can't see how some think that this album is better than Ice Cream Castles Can't see it This is their worst... I can't even reduce to it to a six track album either... Believed me...I've tried Can't be done.. okay, let's see Side 1 Pandemonium Jerk Out Blondie (really didn't want to add this one, but it's the best throwaway tune on heah...and that's not saying much) Now for Side 2 Chocolate (another throwaway tune, who came up with those lyrics?) Sometimes I Get Lonely (probably the best tune on this album) My Summertime Thang The rest just Nice attempt to add actual horns on It's Your World, but it couldn't be saved. The interludes are the worst...Especially at the begin'n I was ready to skip to the next tune... Bet that was Jam & Lewis idea But the other tunes like Skillet & Blondie would've fit better on a Jesse Johnson album.....perhaps The first 3 albums and the classic b-sides are still their best to me

Na uh. Here's the six track:
Love Machine Jerk Out Chocolate Skillet Sometimes I Get Lonely My Summertime Thang This six track version is heavy on Prince composed material - only "...Lonely" and Skillet aren't written by him. I Think it works if you import Love Machine in from GB. You'd also have to take the Jerk Out intro from the single, to keep the flow clean, as We'd have to lose the segue from the "missing" Pandemonium. Nevermind. Keep your headphones on.

I'm not too crazy about this album, either. If I were gonna make it into a six-song album (like their other albums),this would be the tracklist:
Pandemonium Jerkout Donald Trump (Black Version) It's Your World Sometimes I Get Lonely Chocolate even then,we're left with a less-than-spectacular album

Pandemonium absolutely blows Ice Cream Castle out of the water.
Here are my 6 songs Pandemonium Jerk out Chocolate The Skillet Blondie Sometimes I get lonely Ice Cream castle on the other hand only has 3 strong tracks My Drawers The Bird Jungle love I think part of the reason pandemonium gets a bad rep is because the extra songs are basically filler and distract from the good ones. That and the straight forward rock of The Skillet and Blondie is not what most Time fans want to hear(which I love, both in my top 5)

To me,'Pandemonium' just sounds messy and uninspired. The first two Time albums are TIGHT,with strong, focused grooves.By 1990,they had lost something.

Ice Cream Castle is the real record that shows Prince was running out of material. "Ice Cream Castles" is really a song that Prince should have kept for himself. The lyrics are totally wrong for the Time. And "Chili Sauce" is just one long segue.
Pandemonium is a zillion times better. It's much more varied than the one-dimensional earlier albums that Prince did all by himself now that Jesse, Jam & Lewis were allowed to contribute songs. The only filler song I hear is Prince's "Data Bank". Also, the intro is way too long. Get rid of those and you have a perect Time album. spelling [Edited 10/20/07 15:44pm]

I'm not listening to it ever again... [Edited 10/18/07 18:19pm] ----- If you do not understand Chocolate. Then you can't be a Time fan. The song just picks up were the "The Walk" left off.

DUH!!!!! THAT'S JESSE'S STAMP ALL OVER THOSE TWO SONGS CUZ UM.....HE WROTE EM'!!!!! "PANDEMONIUM" WAS THE FIRST TIME PROJECT THAT PRINCE DIDN'T HAVE HIS HANDS ALL OVER.....THAT SHOWCASED INPUT FROM ALL OR MOST OF THE BAND. I THINK THERE WAS A THREAD ABOUT THIS NOT TOO LONG AGO IF U HAD TO STRIP PANDEMONIUM DOWN TO SIX SONGS, HERE THEY ARE: 1)PANDEMONIUM- YOU HAVE TO HAVE A TITLE TRACK!!!!! A JAM & LEWIS PRODUCTION 2)JERK OUT- BY NOW EVERYONE KNOWS PRINCE ORIGINALLY GAVE THIS TO MAZARATI FOR THEIR 2ND LP (BEFORE BROWNMARK JUMPED SHIP TO MOTOWN). BUT THE TIME'S VERSION BLOWS THEIRS OUT THE WATER (JUST LIKE PRINCE WAS MORE THE WISER FOR KEEPING "KISS") 3)BLONDIE- ONE OF MY FAVORITE TRACKS ON PANDEMONIUM....JESSE "CUTTIN THE SH*T OUT'CHA"!!!!! ONE PART ROCK, ONE PART NEW-JACK SWING WITH THE FUNK IN THE MIDDLE.AT THE END OF THE SONG YOU CAN HEAR JESSE'S JOY THAT THEY'RE PLAYIN' "ROCK-N-ROLL"!!!!! 4)CHOCOLATE- THE SUBJECT MATTER....THE GROOVE.....QUINTESSENTIAL TIME!!!!! 5)SOMETIMES I GET LONELY- THE BETTER OF THE TWO SLOW JAMS FROM THE ALBUM. AND JESSE'S BB KING STYLE SOLOING IS PRICELESS!!!!! 6)IT'S YOUR WORLD- JAM & LEWIS PRODUCTION. THE MONTE MOIR SOLO IS COOL, THEN ADD A JESSE SOLO!!!!! .....AND THAT'S WHAT TIME IT IS!!!!! ps: IF IT WAS TO BE A SEVEN SONG LP/CD.....ADD "RELEASE IT" FROM GRAFFITI BRIDGE!!!!!

I didn't care for the Graffiti Bridge Time songs at all. "Shake" sounds tired and "The Latest Fashion" is a watered-down version of "My Summertime Thang". "Love Machine" is okay, but it wouldn't sound right on Pandemonium being a duet.

Skillet is amazing. I think this was the stongest Prince related album after LoveSexy and it has so many songs that the weak ones start sinking the strong songs. I wish The Time had built on the strength of this and continued to record. Sadly, groups like Living Color had the Black guitar rock/funk sound down to a science and took the trophy from The Time.
I wish Prince had stepped back a little more from The Time and allowed these 7 performers to do their thang and once they were done, just put a little scent of Prince on it. They would have come out with some amazing product. Pandemonium is my favorite Prince related album from 1989-94/95. What was better? YOUNT! The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I would also include in that list Batman Graffiti Bridge Diamonds and Pearls The Symbol album Come The Gold Album of those, maybe I like the Gold Album better than Pandemonium. Also The Exodus Has Begun was pretty good too. Overall, it was a lackluster time for Prince and his various musical projects... at least for me.
