Vanity's vocal chops Her limited vocal skills are as legendary as her beautiful face and killer ass. However, I submit that Vanity sounded as good - or better - tan what passing for female vocals in today's new pop singers. I mean, are you telling me that Jennifer Lopez ( I refuse to use the pretentious nickname of "J-Lo") can sing any better than Vanity did? Isn't she a pretty face and a fat ass? Will people give a damn about her singing when she is 50 like Chaka Khan or Natalie Cole?
I say put on Vanity's first album, Wild Animal, and skip the awful vocals on cuts like Mechanical Emotion (but do dig Morris Day on backing vox) and go straight to Samuelle. She actually sounds smooth on this one. Sure, there is alot of polish on the production to help her but is sounds good to me.

I agree about the Jennifer Lopez comment. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

"Samuelle" is one of the few outstanding tracks on Vanity's album. And I'm convinced that the lyrics are really about Prince...

none of these present day female "pop-tarts" can hold a candle to Vanity, PERIOD. Pound for pound, she was sexier, more vivacious, more alluring, more exotic, than J-ho or any other female out here today. end of story. Vanity was the Marilyn Monroe of her time. Back in the day, most little girls wanted to be Madonna; not me; I wanted to be Vanity.

Nobody will give a damn about Jennifer Lopez's singing or her ass when she's 50. People whose fame is based on their image instead of their talent never last. The only gigs she'll be able to get will be center square on the Hollywood Squares game show.

"Under the Influence" had good vocals. I think Vanity worked her breathy voice well. Listen to something like "7th Heaven" (I think that's it...boy, would that make a great theme song for that show!). Listen to her sing and then talk in between the song in a very high cutesy voice! THey should put her stuff out on CD again (if it was on CD in the first place). I was wondering if they could, considering she is dead set against everything Vanity? Do they need her permission anyway?
