Why is it that the people who love Wendy and Lisa so much more than Prince dont post on Wendy and Lisa.org and talk about them all day there? Or whatever web site is devoted to them. Those girls are small fries in the big picture.

actually, there was a rather large wendy and lisa online community...until prince fans started bombarding the site with homophobic flames...

so i pose this question, why do prince famatics get bent out of shape when it comes to discussing wendy and lisa?

Because most of us are also Prince fans as well. And if they are small fries in the "big picture", what a boring "big picture" it would be with no color.

The no color nonsense is just that, nonsense. NGSPW had it right from the word go. They've never come up with anything as good as he has without them on his best music.

You're not doing Wendy and Lisa any favors by putting Prince down to lift them up, cuz they don't feel that way.

actually..many of those people post here..im not going to name names but two of them go under the same name.

ive said this many times before..I was followed Wendy and Lisa *before* i got into Prince's music...And Ive meet many other fans who are the same. Suprisingly they have built up a pretty good fanbase off of the Dangerous Minds soundtrack *and* the Toys Soundtrack. Many of their newer fans are crossfans from their days touring with Doyle Bramhall..and then many are from their tenure with Seal...and get this, I went to a concert here in SF recently...I met the lead singer after the show and he and I struck up a conversation about Neil Finn...to my suprise we started talking about Wendy and Lisa..He felt that Wendy was a good and had no clue about their time with Prince...

When i visit these other bands sites, the BB boards gush about Wendy and Lisa...And its telling that Columbia has re-released the girls first two albums and are planning on re-releasing Eroica *and* an out of print complication disc...

so, to each his own...but, i still dont understand the hatred from the prince fans...

im sorry but, how am i putting prince down? im stating a fact...over at the imusic BB a couple prince.org people started flaming the thread and calling wendy and lisa lesbians and all people who posted on that site faggots...they started posting stories and got wendy and lisa's management so upset that they stopped sharing information with the fans...

so, how does this have to do with prince himself?

Actually Kee, some of the people on the imusic BB that were indeed Wendy and Lisa fans played a bigger part in pissing off Wendy and Lisa's management. But you're right, some people really say some hateful things about Wendy and Lisa.

It's all opinions I guess. Somebody somewhere thinks that Justin Timberlake is a better artist than Prince ever was. Whatever.

Personally, I could never really get into W&L's stuff post-Prince. And believe me I tried. But that's just me.

Now, if Prince had only released the amount of work that W&L released since they broke up, or if they had released as much as he has he'd probably kill them on the quality of music. But that's just my opinion , WTF do I know.

Now that you mention it...Justin IS pretty fly. wink I think most of us Wendy and Lisa fans only get up in guard when someone feels the need to downplay their influence. I've been a fan of Prince since 1979 and I love his music. But I will always have a soft spot for The Revolution, mostly Wendy and Lisa. Even on just songs they sang on, they changed the vibe,I've heard Irrisitible Bitch with and without them, I prefer it with. And when they play together again someday, all those who missed the train the first time around can see what the rest of us have been talking about all these years.

I know why some appreciate them because they obviously like there music. What's not to understand? I was saying what small percentage that frequents a message board and what one person says about them that you talked to doesn't mean a whole lot.

I like Wendy & Lisa's contributions to Prince's work and their solo work as well.I think Lisa's piano playing is unique and I particularly like the way her voice compliments Prince's (i.e: The Stick, Pop Life ).

However I do think their contributions tend to be overrated in some ways.I mean ,its fairly obvious,to me anyway, that Prince finds it easier to create on his own.Im sure he is influenced by others and Im not denying their influence on him in those days .But I think he also went on to have the same kind of relationship with subsequent band members which rarely get mentioned around here :

Obviously Fink and Shiela.
He seemed to enjoy Levi's input quite a bit.
Rosie
Tony M (like it or not )

Im not saying any of the above are better or worse than W&L .Just that they also contributed to his music in the same way...

I think the assumptions about W&Ls contributions stem from their roles in the Purple Rain film, which has never been purely autobiographical.

No, there's no assumptions really. You can tell by listening to the music what they influenced. Songs like Mountains, Sometimes it Snows in April and Power Fantastic where they actually wrote the music, you can hear that "sound" of theirs. And you mention those other influences, all most of them did was get him to sound like everyone else, what was hot at the moment. They weren't good at getting Prince to push himselves, they were all yes men. (this does not include Fink or Sheila)

No, it implies that I believe that they are better than Prince... the title was not "Why are Wendy and Lisa good while Prince totally sucks."

I have not said anything negative about Prince on the thread or anything, so your statement is merely your interpretation of something and is not fact.

Since my 'extreme negativeity is blinding' then you should get out of the daisy patch and into the real world. Everybody doesnt live a vacuum of cotton candy. Damn, man, you exaggerate beyond belief. I got no time for people who feel the need to outright lie about such small matters. With all due respect to Wendy and Lisa's work, the above statement display's exactly the kind of assumption I was talking about. How do we know who were yes men or who pushed Prince musically? His albums are pretty brief on details about who played what when and so on...Of course the Uptown books provide some details (altho they assume quite a bit too).According to them, Levi was often trusted with production work in the same manner as W & L ... this hardly qualifies him as a yesman.

Again I stress: Im not denying W & Ls contributions.I Like Them. But I feel that, more often than not,Prince does most of his creating alone, adding other musicians later as needed.
