Their 1989 'Fruit At The Bottom' album is great! Very funky and melodic. "Are You My Baby?" was the hit. Can't say it sold well or got much radio play. But BET used to play it often. I think it made the Video Soul Top 20. Can't comment on their others albums. You can see their videos at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/wa...5V28RIwRZI

Wrong Forum.

But their debut album was nice. "Song About" was a great song. "Are You My Baby" as mentioned was very nice too.

I REALLY dig 'Eroica'! There's some SERIOUS funk on there. Listen to "Skeleton Key". Also, the 'Girl Bros.' album is lovely (although quite sad). 'Fruit at the Bottom' has some great pop music, but the lyrics are somewhat lame.

Best W&L album is the first one. My fave song is Don't try to tell me. Lisa's vocals on that are great, heartfelt and sincere. Who's voice do W&L fans prefer?

'Eroica' the whole album beats up on the funk harder than P has in some time. I was really disappointed Virgin just did not support them.

Eroica is one hell of a solid CD. WAY better than anything Prince was doing at the time. Wish more people knew about it. It has a little bit of every type of music. there is not one weak track.

Also love Girl Bros & first album. Wasn't too crazy over Fruit at the Bottom...they were trying too hard to sound like Prince on it imo. But that doesn't mean it sucks. Just not as good as the others.

I personally like Wendy's singing voice more than Lisa's, however, Lisa has proved to have a solid voice as well (Don't Try to Tell Me).

Here's hoping for a new W&L CD sometime in the future.

Eroica is a brilliant album, they were way ahead of their time. A bit more rock, a bit grungier, a bit more stylish and sophisticated than the previous two. Darn it, W&L should have been huge, and probably would have been if it had all happened five or ten years later. They laid the groundwork for your Alanis's and so on.

But that's not to say the first two albums aren't good too. They sound like an artist finding their feet a bit, but in a way I like that. Especially with the first one... I like the self-produced, self-financed feel, it's sort of charming. I remember how I always used to listen to that record in the car on the way to a weekly residency our band had in west London. Brings back really vivid memories.

Damn, I like "Fruit" as well. "I Think It Was December" would make one of the best encores any band could ever hope for live.

When checking out the albums though, do try to forget about the Prince connection. If you want to hear Prince, buy a Prince album. Apart from a couple of moments, they very much do their own thing. It's good.

Can you still get GirlBros? My world isn't complete without that album.
