advice on prince-associated music pls

hi - I've been a P fan for years and years, but somehow, never bought any albums associated with him (Shelia E/ time/ The Family etc)
now, i really feel I'm missing out - but there seems so much out there!
can anyone give me a beginner's guide...which would be the best albums to buy?
thanks!

you'll probably get a wide range of response, but i would say that you can't go wrong with any of the prince/paisley park-associated albums from 1985-88 such as sheila e's first three albums, madhouse's "8" and "16", and my personal favorite, jill jones' self-titled album. there's lots more to explore and discover both from before and after that period, but i think that was the glory days of his associated artist output.
