"Under The Influence" is her best single and that's because it was... *written by outside songwriters *the bass is heavy and her vocals are buried in the mix For the first album ('Wild Animal'),Vanity was given complete artistic control and she wrote all the songs.But when the album bombed,they kept a CLOSE watch on the recording of the the second album ('Skin On Skin').They brought in outside songwriters and made sure that her vocals were "enhanced" a little (with heavy background vocals on some tracks,and heavy bass on others).Unfortunately,this strategy didn't work either.The album bombed and Vanity was dropped from the Motown roster. | |
