I JUST PULLED THIS CD OUTTA MY CAR AFTER LISTENING 2 IT 4 2 WEEKS STRAIGHT!!!!
EVERYONE SAYS IT'S THEIR "WEAKEST" LP. THAT MAY BE TRUE, BUT IT IS BY FAR THEIR BEST-SELLING LP!!!!! IT'S JUST A SHAME THAT THERE WAS NO TOUR BEHIND IT. BUT BY THEN THE BAND WAS DONE.
CAN U IMAGINE THE TIME ON THE "PURPLE RAIN" TOUR??? AGAIN THEY WOULDA WHOOPED PRINCE'S ASS ON STAGE!!!!! LOL!!!! BUT....THEN AGAIN MAYBE NOT!!!! THEIR HEART & SOUL (JIMMY JAM, TERRY & MONTE) WAS GONE. AND EVEN IF THEY WERE STILL TOGETHER, I DON'T THINK PRINCE WOULDA RISKED BEING UPSTAGED AT THAT POINT!!!!!

I'M EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED 2 THIS LP AS WELL: I JUST PERFORMED IT AS PART OF A TRIBUTE TO THE TIME LAST FRIDAY!!!!!

I WILL GO OUT ON A LIMB HERE: I LISTEN TO "ICC" MORE THAN I DO "THE TIME" OR "PANDEMONIUM"!!!!!

I LOVE THE WHOLE LP, BUT MY ABSOLUTE FAVES ARE "ICC", "MY DRAWERS" & "JUNGLE LOVE"!!!! IT WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTING TO HEAR THE UNCUT VERSION OF "JUNGLE LOVE" I HEARD PRINCE BUTCHERED JESSE'S SOLO IN THE EDITING PROCESS!!!!!
cool cool cool cool cool cool cool

I have to admit, the albums grown on me since starting this thread. I don't know what it is about Chilli Sauce but I can't stop listening to it. I love Morris Day's arrogant persona... so humourous. And the instrumentation in the background is gorgeous!

Imagine this - seeing The Jungle Love, The Bird and Ice Cream Castles videos and Purple Rain when it came out. As a teen, I didn't know all about the drama that went on with Jam and Lewis and about Prince playing most of the stuff on the records - all I knew was the cats I'd seen on screen were cool as hell. Now, I did know that the songs were different than 777-9311 - which I loved - but I still dug the album just the same.

Also, that whole time period - where I also discovered the Dirty Mind album - converted me from a Michael Jackson fanatic to a full-fledged, wannabe Minneapolis funk child lol

I never cared much for this album.I like "My Drawers" and "Jungle Love" but the other songs don't do much for me.It's a disappointing follow-up to the excellent 'What Time Is It' album.

The first two Time albums are essential. The other two,I can take or leave.

I agree with this. It's their weakest album hands down. The band had basically broken up by the time the album was released. It was a lot of mess going on during the recording of the album. P held back many cuts knowing that the group was finished. So there are many throwaway cuts on there. Cuts like Mutiny and High Fashion were tailored for The Time but know way was he going to waste cuts like that on a band that was done. Similar thing with Apples6 album. He knew that project was a one album thing so he yanked hits like The Glamourous Life and Manic Monday. I LOVE the title cut "Ice Cream Castles". Always have. The lyrics don't fit Morris singing though. Morris told me that it's truly a Prince subject matter song. He said "Prince and his white girls."

"High Fashion" would have been perfect for this album. In fact,it should have been the lead-off song, instead of "Ice Cream Castles",which Morris didn't even care for.

Exactly."Ice Cream Castles" is a Prince song that really doesn't fit the Time's image. It's silly hearing the pimp-like Morris go on and on about an interracial relationship nuts He's too cool to try to analyze something like that, lol.

Now Pandemonium has even more great songs on it than ICC. Blondie, Skillet, Pandemonium, Jerk Out... where do I begin? All of those are classic and would fill up one side of their greatest hits CD.

I totally agree. I am going to start a thread that asks what tracks would be on a TIME greatest hits CD

Harsh! No Skillet? No Jerk Out? No Release It? No Blondie?
sounds incomplete! Maybe on the bonus disk or something.

That album is fire. My brother, who is exactly Ps age went w/ me through the whole PR ride but he was always in my ear like "you know that Time album is funkier than this for real dont you?" If theyd have done My Drawers in PR, P might have been sitting w/ Morris at the academy awards. Its a real, true, funk album. In fact before PR, even though P wrote most of the material, the Time gave ol boy a run for his money many a night. When it was sort of underground, they were raw.

I can see where both of ya'll are coming from. Really, I always considered Pandemonium a Jesse album with some old ass P cuts thrown in for good measure. I like Blondie and Skillet and I 've always liked Jerk Out. But the o.g version. Not The Time's version. When I think of this album, I think of Jesse turning it loose a bit on guitar. It's not a tailored sound like the first two albums were.

I think that is what makes it great. I love the fact that there are more than 6 songs on it! Whats up with only putting out 6 songs on an album? That is one side of music? Sure the albums were good but 6 songs? Wha tha fa?

That was always my beef. That is why I wish that Prince would have not put International Lover on 1999 and kept Morris' vocals on it, and placed it on the 2nd album by The Time. If he'd have been more excited about this, he'd have added some of the additional Time tracks on the albums (Bold Generation, Dance 2 the Beat, Movie Star, etc.) to fill them out.

I beg the differ my friends

I loved the six long jams on each album...

It became traditional biggrin

Maybe that's why I'm not feeling Pandemonium that much.

Overproduced and way too many interludes and such..

I tried to chop it down to six extended tunes to no avail.

Can't listen to it long enough lol

At first, when the debut came out, I vividly remember thinking how cool it was that only 6 songs were on there for some reason. It just worked some how. When the second album came out, I thought pretty much the same thing. But when Ice Cream hit, I thought he should have had a few more cuts on there. Probably because of the film. I did think that this was a special situation and deserved to be treated as such. Their album cover was much fancier and almost regal. Just seeing 6 cuts on there seemed to cheapen the vibe somehow.

I like the idea of putting only 6 songs on the Time albums. That way,we got those amazing LONG versions.Come on....the full-length version of "777-9311" with that lengthy guitar solo...the full-length version of "I Don't Wanna Leave You" with that cool electronic piano and that weird, abrupt ending...the full-length version of "The Walk" with that hilarious skit at the end? We never would have gotten these things if the albums were the typical,10-song,45-minute album (remember, this was in the days of vinyl albums).

When Prince saw how well this concept worked,he wanted to make an album featuring his own long, extended versions. Thus, the '1999' album was born lol

I agree! lol 'Pandemonium' would have worked better as a 6-song album. There are too many interludes and filler tracks.Imagine if this was the tracklist (the songs would be much longer):

Pandemonium
Jerkout
Donald Trump (Black Version)
It's Your World
Sometimes I Get Lonely
Chocolate

That would have been a tigher, more focused Time album.
