What do you guys think of Ice Cream Castles by The Time? Just bought this record yesterday... and am a little disappointed with it. I don't think it's half as good as What Time Is It.
I really love the title track and The Bird is really cool also... but of the three eighties albums, it's probably my least favourite. What do you guys make of it?

I never cared much for this album.I like "My Drawers" and "Jungle Love" but the other songs don't do much for me.It's a disappointing follow-up to the excellent 'What Time Is It' album.
The first two Time albums are essential. The other two,I can take or leave.

The first two Time albums are essential. The other two,I can take or leave. True. Very true. Only I liked JUNGLE LOVE and THE BIRD. But, when THE TIME busted out with COOL, man that was the shit to me!

You were disappointed with a record that has "The Bird", "My Drawers", and "Jungle Love" on it? It's not as tight a record as the first two Time albums, but it's still very good. I think "Chili Sauce" is one of Prince's greatest pieces of music... As a kid, I used to have my record player set to repeat that track over and over at night while I was sleeping.

I enjoy about half of it. I agree, it doesn't compare to the 1st two Time albums, nor does it compare to Pandamonium, which has more great songs. That said, it does have their biggest hits and probably sold more than any other Time album based on Jungle Love and The Bird. Also, I can't imagine any Greatest hits album without those two songs on it. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. The only song that I like on the album is "Jungle Love".

To me it is a lazy or incomplete album....sure "My Drawers" is tha jam. "The Bird", "Jungle Love" and Ice Cream Castles" are all tight cuts but that is it.
Complared to their first album or "What Time is it" or even "Pandemonium", "Ice Cream Castles" is basically four quality songs with two throw aways. That just doesn't cut it for me. "Always blessings, never losses......"

the title track puts me to sleep it's the most boring Time single
"Chili Sauce" is filler, and "The Bird" can't compete with "The Walk",a superior track. The album sounds rushed, like it was hastily thrown together.

My third favorite album from The Time. My favorite albums from The Time coincidently happen to be in the order they were released.....
1. The Time 2. What Time Is It 3. Ice Cream Castles 4. Pandemonium Andy is a four letter word.

It does sound rushed like Prince was trying to throw something together real quick for the movie. However, the B Side to their first single "Tricky" is a funky ass jam from hell. One of their funkiest. Andy is a four letter word.

You guys must remember...When ICC was released, WB was trying to introduce The Time to the masses. Before then, The Time only had minor success on the pop chart. That was the reason for the title track being the 1st single.
You must also take into account that PR was about to be released. They wanted the pop audience to be familiar with The Time before PR was released. It wasn't until after PR came out that Jungle Love and The Bird took off. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Ice Cream Castles track was a creative song for it's time. It's still a jam. The best tracks are "My Draws" and " Ice Cream Castles". I think Jungle love and the bird are dated tracks that are hard for me to listen to today. They almost seem silly. What time is it is difinitely the best followed by their first album.

You need to look for it on a vinyl 45 or maybe it's on the internet somewhere on one of those download sharing sites if they still exist. If you have Prince's "Crystal Ball" album, the song "Cloreen Bacon Skin" has the same drums as "Tricky". "Tricky" has synth parts over those drums. It's a comical song with Morris Day talking about someone and calling them names. The only problem is, the song is too damn short. Andy is a four letter word.

I liked the title track. But I think that Prince should've kept that one for himself. It sounds more like a Prince song. Album wise, Although it's got some good songs on it, I like the other albums better. One of the reasons is that the original members are on them.I really love the title track and The Bird is really cool also... but of the three eighties albums, it's probably my least favourite. I agree, the title track doesn't feel like a Time song.I think it's too subdued to be a Time single.Prince should have kept this song for himself,or given it to The Family instead. As a Time single,it's extremely boring.

That is why some of the band referred to that era as 'part Time'. I agree that it was unfortunate that Jimmy and Terry were out, but in all honesty, it was mostly Prince in the studio on all of the tracks anyway so their absence was felt more in the movie and live (and on the cover of the album) than on the tracks themselves. My issue is that Jesse's solo was muted on The Bird, which was based on a live performance from the band from the previous October... again, without Terry and Jimmy. another problem with this album: the slow jam "If The Kid Can't Make You Come" is just silly and dumb.Once again,it sounds hastily thrown together.
Compare this with the superior slow jams on the first album ("Girl") and the second album ("Gigolos Get Lonely Too").

I dig the album because I have an emotional tie to it - I was a teen when "Purple Rain" premiered in '84, so "Purple Rain" and "Ice Cream Castles" always brings me back to that time. It was a wonderful time to be a Prince fan. I played the s**t out of both albums.
Fast forward twenty or so years. Ice Cream Castles is the least listened of all the Time's albums. I still pull it out from time to time (no pun intended) and listen to Jesse's solo on Jungle Love and I still groove to "My Drawers". And I've always dug the title track - it was something different from Morris and the boys. I don't listen to the other cuts as much. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

The first two Time albums are essential. The other two,I can take or leave. I agree with this. It's their weakest album hands down. The band had basically broken up by the time the album was released. It was a lot of mess going on during the recording of the album. P held back many cuts knowing that the group was finished. So there are many throwaway cuts on there. Cuts like Mutiny and High Fashion were tailored for The Time but know way was he going to waste cuts like that on a band that was done. Similar thing with Apples6 album. He knew that project was a one album thing so he yanked hits like The Glamourous Life and Manic Monday. I LOVE the title cut "Ice Cream Castles". Always have. The lyrics don't fit Morris singing though. Morris told me that it's truly a Prince subject matter song. He said "Prince and his white girls." SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

"IT'S BABY AIN'T IT???" man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

ACTUALLY.....Morris Day plays drums on BOTH "Tricky" AND "Cloreen Bacon Skin".....the VOICE on "Tricky" ("Why U Big.....Tossed-Salad hairdo havin'")is Morris....the other voice is PRINCE!!!!! On "Cloreen Bacon Skin", Prince does the bass and the voice!!!!! And while we're on the subject of ICC, that is ALSO Prince on "Chili Sauce" as the waiter ("AH!!!! GOOD EVENING MR.
