Sheila E. a judge on new show

Sheila E. will be a judge on the new Fox show
"The Next Great American Band"
http://www.usatoday.com/l...band_N.htm
will you watch the show? biggrin

Sheila E.: Auditions "like boot camp."

What's this? By Bill Keveney, USA TODAY
Sheila E. (The Glamorous Life) and the Goo Goo Dolls' John Rzeznik will headline the judging panel on The Next Great American Band, a new music competition from the producers of American Idol.
The rest of the field tilts Down Under: Australian Idol's Ian "Dicko" Dickson is the third judge, and New Zealand Idol's Dominic Bowden hosts the Fox series. It premieres Oct. 19.

As with Idol, the judges will narrow down auditioning bands. Once a field of 10 is chosen, the bands will perform original music and covers of various styles each week in front of a studio audience. Judges will comment, but viewers will vote on who stays.

The three surviving bands will compete for a contract with 19 Recordings in the season finale.

Last week, the judges took part in a Las Vegas round in which they narrowed the field. "The experience was more like boot camp," says Sheila E., who has been musical director for Prince, Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. "We actually heard a lot of great bands, (and) we heard a few people we could have gonged. "

Goo Goo Dolls
Performers were diverse in style, background and age: The youngest is a 12-year-old drummer and the oldest is an 88-year-old grandmother. Genres included rock, country, retro, big band and R&B with a little jazz and alternative, she says.

"The range of music was awesome."

It's about damn time they had a show with bands competing rather than just boring ass singers who go on to get record deals where they sing over stripped down computerized music just like everyone else these days.

The show sounds like a great idea but I bet they will only let boring ass bands appear on the show. On the R&B side, I doubt we will see the next Cameo, Lakeside, Brick, or Barkays on the show. More like the next band that makes "neo soul" or whatever the hell they call this stuff these days where they make slow shit only.

Agreed, it's about time.
I'm glad it's about the bands though.
It'll be harder to mask mistakes with an instrument.
that alone will make it more interesting than "Idol"
I hope it's about real talent, and not about finding the next_____
.
You make some excellent points cool

It sounds good because it has Sheila, but honestly I'm getting tired
of the reality shows.....they're overloading us the past 2 or 3 years.
However, I'll probably watch the first few just to see what it's about.
Maybe I'll get hooked.... lol

Sheila will definitely be the draw for me.
Of all the music related reality shows ,this one could hold my interest.
I'm not a big fan of reality shows ,but I'll give this one a try.
