Zappa and Prince are the two greatest artists ever

These artists are so similiar in many ways. They are my two favs artists ever.

Zappa's vault is amazing. Literally thousands of master tapes. Every show, every studio session, every t.v performance.

before i got into zappa i thought Prince had the largest body of work and was the most obsessive musician but zappa easily takes the cake.

Any zappa fans will know how similiar these two artists are. After reading books, interviews etc their behaviour was very much the same.
Both great guitarists.
Both obsessive workaholics.
Both have large vaults.
Both taped every show.
Both changed groups every few years.
Both composed their own music.
Both cold and emotionless(for the most part)
Both expressed a huge interest in sex via music.
Both have had bandmates say horrible things; very similiar things.
Both work all night; eat little; sleep in the day only a few hours.
Both found it hard forming human relationships. They put their music first.
Both were on WB and expressed disgust at one pint towards the label.

I always loved Zappa's originality and passion for music.
I actually heard about Zappa' music before discovering Prince and it makes me think that my favourites artists are truly unique and have a true understanding of what music is.
I never realised that Prince and Zappa had so much in common as artists, but when I think about it now, your points make sense. I wish Prince was more talkative in his very few t.v appearances though. There are a few Zappa's t.v interviews on You Tube and I love how witty he was (R.I.P) and I also bought his book " The real Frank Zappa book" on Amazon, I will read it in a few days.

All the best, Suzie

I agree. Your female and like zappa? He was very sexist you know. At least that's what everyone thinks based on his comments and songs.

The interviews on youtube are brilliant though; that's where i first saw zappa. great promotion for an artist. If only Prince wasn't such a ****

I understand why people found him sexist but I am not offended, I understand that he used sex or women to shock people so I don't take some of his lyrics too seriously (I find it funny actually). However some of the recent fake "hip hop" songs have lyrics which are truly offensive/degrading towards women and these "performers" can't even play one instrument.
I have a great admiration for Zappa and Prince as they stood up for themselves through their musical carreers, truly inspiring! smile

for the most part. People who have known him have said that.
Of course there's some exceptions
