I don't know the web site anymore because it wasn't on her web site. You had to give your name and number and she would call you so you could order the book through her. I did it to see what would happen. She actually did call me and we talked for about a half hour or something. She even gave me her phone number, but I don't know what happened to it. It was very surreal. The book was too expensive so I didn't order it. Thats the kind of story that makes me balk,$200?! How can she ask for $200. I need $200 yesterday! She's a celebrity not me. The Bible don't cost $200 And Thats Gods Story! Oh Well, I guess I'll never know whats in the Black Box. Why not a Movie Have Beyonce play her, Tatitana Ali play Susan and Pink play Brenda! We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

Thank you for that. If that's a recent pic then she's aged very well. She's still beautiful.

I think it's a typo. there was a day upon a once when "man" did not only refer to the male persuasion man = human, mankind, humankind and this is in reference to a Bible verse: "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward [man] is renewed day by day" (2 Cor 4:16). Nice article. Thanks!

I agree. Errr,guys..re read the question. Then re read the answer. Then tell me what one has got to do with the other. I agree. DJJillMonroe answers the question quite well, Not Vanity/Denise! Thank the notion of God for a way out of a selfdestructive life. Or just thank the fact that she maybe not only put the self destruction on herself by her own choices - but that also the new life is of her own choice. The interesting thing is not whether some deity gave her one more chance - but that she took it.

Okay, I typed a response earlier but it disappeared.
Take two: Although I am happy that Ms. Matthews has found her salvation and has changed her life for the better, I must say that I am a VANITY enthusiast, not an Evangelist Denise fan. From the way it sounds, she has decided to attempt to erase that part of her life. If her book "The Black Box" isn't going to be about her days as a celeb-chasing cokewhore temptress, I'm not interested. I'm just being honest. 200 smackers is too much to be asking for a page-by-page sermon from someone who has little interest in her current path in life. More power to her, though.

I will def. buy this book if she ever actually puts it out- BUT not for $200. (I finally got Dez's book recently- personally autographed for $25 and it was a great read. ) I'm hoping that $200 plan has changed since last year...maybe if she didn't get any orders for that price, that's why it hasn't come out yet? I'm surprised she's sticking with the self-publishing thing, I'm sure she could get a publishing deal if the book is written. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Thanks for posting the article.
I really wish the book would just be published in the normal way. Self-publishing is great, but usually for unknowns who are most at risk. She is a known figure and there is interest in her life story, not just because of Prince, but because as 'Vanity', she created a unique persona that still generates interest today. There is very little risk in her book selling if it is published. I am sure some publisher would jump at the chance. (I'm hoping!). I could be wrong, but I think maybe she got the idea of the $200 thing from her ex...Nikki Sixx (that dweeb!). There is a book out on him, not his latest one, but one before that costs over $100. Anyway, his newest work of fiction comes out soon and mentions her in it alot. It's all about his drug addiction (yawn, yawn). Now that will sell sh** loads, just 'cause it's him, and it'll probably cost $15-16. She could have even done an album to go with the book, although, not many want to be preached to these days. In this case, I would agree with someone above who mentioned not spending that kind of money to get a sermon. IMO, people are much more SPIRITUALLY aware these days than RELIGIOUS. I want to choose for myself who and what I believe in. I don't want to be made to believe anything. That's a WHOLE-nother topic! I just hope she stops teasing us with interviews and pre-orders, and get the book published, get it on Amazon, and let the people KNOW! Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

200 for the book? Id rather give 200 to GOD.

"She is a known figure and there is interest in her life story"
I hate to say this, but I really don't think there is alot of interest in this book Despite her accomplishments,Vanity never really became a huge superstar.I think she has had problems finding a publisher.Let's face it,the only people who know/care about this book are Prince fans like us who remember her from the Vanity 6 days.I can't see a major book publisher getting excited about this project.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You could be right, depending on the content of the book. But many lesser known 'has beens' have had works published. We don't really know the real reason why a major publisher is not involved. But what I do personally know is that sometimes people want to have full control over what and how their work is published, which often leads them to self publishing.
I do take your point about the people who might be interested might only be Prince fans. But I do believe that at the height of her career that she was perhaps not a major player, but she was definetly known in the game. Actually, even still, if the content of her book was interesting enough, it wouldn't matter whether she was a major celebrity or not. People would still be interested, Prince fan or not. Everyone likes a good story, especially if it's autobiographical. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

I think a movie about the Vanity 6 story could be a winner, I would choose Rosario Dawson over Beyonce because she physically resembles Vanity more. I agree with Pink playing Brenda, she would kick ass! I would choose Mya to play Susan cos she looks more like her than tatiyana Ali.

Jimmyrogertodd, I can't post the links here because we aren't allowed to do it on this site, but you can definetely find this on youtube, along with another one of him getting a tatoo and saying something about the Japenese not being happy about Blacks coming into their tatoo shop, and that the Black Spice girl tried to get in to have a tatoo and was turned away. Sixx is known for lying alot so he might just be making it up as usual.
In their book, he spoke terribly about Vanity, and even called her 'Denise Williams'. Also, someone sent me a radio interview where he was asked about an upcoming movie about the Crue and he was saying that the only person he thinks did a great job in playing a music star was Val Kilmer in the movie about The Doors. Then the interviewer said, 'What about Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, that was magnificent'. And Sixx said, 'Oh, yeah, that was good'. It's like, how long ago was that Doors film out. How recent was Ray? Maybe he was just thinking rock and roll. But with his history, you just jump to the obvious. Don't get me started on this idiot.. I guess I already have started!! Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.
