OK I just have a question about these two songs. Who did P write "I hate you for?" and when did that come out I don't remeber? Mayte looks really young in that one. Then "The One" wasn't that written for Mayte.
Sometimes I wonder how she could do that in one video be hated (so to speak) and then the other be soo in love. I just love the song The one. You can see the love in that video. Mayte still has that outfit from that video. It was hand made for the video.

I Hate U came out in 1995 on the Gold Experience. I have read that it was written about Carmen Electra, but who knows. The One most definitely inspired by/written for Mayte, his "soul mate" at the time.
Who knows? Maybe it's all fiction anyway.

I watch some of the older stuff where Mayte is in video and with Prince and it seemed from the outside looking in there was magic between the two of them and I don't know how or why that was lost. Pure magic I want to know how do you loss something so beautiful as that. I never did see magic with any of the other women like I did with Mayte. I have been a Prince fan since I was 13 years old and I am now OHHH a lot older now There have been no women in video like Mayte, Shelia E has been in proformances but not videos announcing his love like he did with Mayte.

Susannah was never in any Prince videos except where she is singing with a large group of people, Vanity never appeared in any videos with Prince, Mani wasn't in any either.
Mayte was the only serious love who was also a true member of Prince's band, therefore it was her JOB to appear in the videos... being the female dancer of course she would play the love interest in his videos... and at that time they seemed to be deeply in love. I just don't think his love for Mayte was any more sincere than his love for his other true loves... we just never got to see their interactions to see the magic they shared as well.

Damn shame

I heard the same rumor that I HATE U was about Carmen but I don't know, after hearing how superficial their relationship was, the lyrics don't make that much sense to me. He dumped her in the end as I recall so why would he write a song about her cheating on him and him hating/loving her?

The truth as explained on her doc on e. Prince was seeing ALOT of wome on tour some regular, some casual so Carmen started seeing someone; as soon as she did Prince cut off al ties with her and left her totally broke and virtually homeless.
