they've had a new CD "in the can" for over 4-5 years. Not sure if this is going to be the same thing, but it's been completed forever, and yes, Prince does play on it.

I think you're referring to their unreleased album 'Old Dogs,New Tricks' which was recorded in 1997.It's rumored that Prince and Lenny Kravitz both contributed to this project.I know that Jam and Lewis were also involved,to a lesser extent. Here's the tracklist:

THE TIME 'OLD DOGS,NEW TRICKS'

Cowgirl
Style
Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock?
Shake It Baby
Old Dogs,New Tricks
Player's Quiz
North Side,South side,Suburbs
And That's What Time It Is

In the late 90s,different release dates came and went, but the album was never released.

Prince was involved. So were Jam & Lewis. In fact, Jam & Lewis produced it. I remember several years ago, one of the members was asked when/if it would come out, and he said to ask Jam & Lewis, because they had the album in their posession.

You are correct with the track listing from what I recall. Style actually ended up on Prince's Emancipation 3-CD Opus, Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock? is actually a Clinton Funkadelic composition (from One Nation Under a Groove).
In closing it is truly 'Time" for these brothers to throw in the towel. I have said it before on previous threads it is over. The Morris Day "I'm so cool" routine has been beaten down to the degree of Who Let The Dogs Out" It is done - even Prince has grown and changed. These cats are nearly 50 years old still singing about how cool they are. NO they're not. Let me put it in perspective - what would it look like if Prince still performed in under-ware and leg warmers. Morris Day please stop. If you have to come your hair to the center of your scalp to cover a bald spot...it's time to go!!! If you, after 20 plus years, only talent is to hold a mirror for an outdated, overweight poor singer...It's time to go. If you release a new CD and it consist of live versions of songs twenty years old and you are trying to make it fresh...IT IS time to go!!!
Listen the Time's first CD, released in 1982 (25 years ago), was recorded exclusively by Prince, Morris Day, Lisa and Dez. Four people then why cant 6 people release a CD. With the number of street corner rap-pin want ta Be's able to cut a whole album of stuff then these old ASSX cats should be able to create a CD of material - OMG it's burning...burning!!!!

Daaammmmnn !!! Now all we need is for Vanity 6 to get back together. Could you imagine that tour. It be 1983 all over again. Vanity 6, The Time, and the Purple One. That was one of my favorite concerts in Long Beach, CA.

I'm not sure that he owns the rights to "The Time." I knew he owned the publishing rights for a lot of the material. But I don't think Prince had anything to do with the making of Pandemonium back in 1990.

falloff

***'Pandemonium' was released on Prince's Paisley Park Record label
***Many of the songs were written and produced by Prince: "Jerkout","Chocolate","Data Bank","My Summertime Thang","Donald Trump (Black Version)",etc.

i thought jam and lewis produced jerkout. no?

No. Prince and Jesse Johnson wrote Jerkout years ago. Listen to the long version of Jerkout, the instrumental is the same as Shortberry Strawcake's interlude.

I guess as the resident Time fanatic I have to come and defend the fellas(not that they need it or even care what anybody writes about them) The Time ain't going anywhere. I already have tickets for the scooter tour 10 years from now biggrin Its not as easy as everybody thinks for a name band like the Time to put out an album. Lots of egos and legal issues involving different parties. Its not as simple as the band just writing some songs and going and recording them. Sad to say, even if they came out with what Time is it part 2, it probably wouldn't sell, its not the "in" thing. Your right any piece of shit rapper can put out something that sells now cause thats what's "in" Just like every Prince wanna be or hair band could sell half a million-million plus copies in the 80's. hell Prince can't even get a platinum record with out a gimmick and he's one of the most talented musician on the planet.

The Time is an old school funk band and that's what everybody wants and expects when they go to see them in concert. Without the Cool, its just a solo Morris show. If Morris is fat, I'm Bootsy Collins. And as far as holding a mirror being somebodies only talent, believe me if it was, that certain somebody would still be in the band right now

and by the way
The Time's first album came out in 1981 cool
