lol Or did you want to say the funniest band? I mean, I try never to judge a book by it's cover, but the cover of that album (and especially the back!!!) really was... something eek falloff Even too much by 80's standards! It made it very, very hard to listen seriously to the album itself... which I consider mediocre, at best.
Try another shot at the funkiest band...? smile

Mazarati's album was bangin' so yeah, I agree. I first met Andre at a Mazarati concert at The Palace in 86. They were funkier live. Great musicians. Terry's vocals were weak as hell live though. They didn't even do my fave song by them, Strawberry Lover. And that's probably because Terry couldn't fuck with it live. I was trying to get the bass player to give me his hat. He damn near did it too but he didn't want to take it off on stage and have his hair all fucked up.

The funkiest band to come out of Paisley Park was the NPG. Don't know what you're talking about. Mazarati was cool for their time but that was short lived of course. The best band is the one touring with his royal badness right now. Hollar!
Peace and be wild!

I agree,Mazarati were the funkiest band to come out of Paisley Park.Their album contains infectious jams like "Stroke","She's Just That Kinda Lady","100 MPH" and "Player's Ball".This is Minneapolis funk at it's finest.

Mediocre? That got me rollin. Seriously, name a funkier band to come out of Paisley Park? I dare ya!

You can't fuck with Players Ball, Stroke, She's Just That Kinda Lady, Strawberry Lover, I Guess It's All Over, Suzy, 100MPH.....those are some straight fuckin funk jams.

Thanks for the anecdote blackguitaristz. That's awesome that you saw them live.

As much as I love P, his current band are FAR from funky. And with as many line-up changes the NPG has had, it is not a band. More-so a collective of rapidly changing backing musicians under a name badge.

confuse Wait a minute? Am I that off? Hey I am not one that won't admit I am wrong confused Maybe I was too much thinkin' back of that cover only lol I must admit I haven't listened to the album in ages, mainly because I have it on vinyl only. Gimme a chance to get beck to the drawing board, then... music I'll get back to ya'll with a revised opinion smile

The funkiest band was The Time by far. Granted, Prince did virtually everything for them in the studio, but catch them live and they TEAR IT UP. The only band that scared Prince.

Mirror mirror on the wall...

I'm gonna say The Time with the og lineup. Morris, Jesse, Terry, Jerome & Jellybean w/ Jam & Monte.

I also liked Prince's big band when Sheila's peeps would join the party. The BrownMark bass with Eddie M, Boni, Mico, Levi, Sheila, etc...
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Romeoblu

I love the Mazarati Album.

Highlights are 100 mph and Stroke.

If we were too included all associated artist albums this would be my top ten.

Andre Cymone / Livin' In The New Wave (Such an underatted album)
Mazarati (Imagine how good this would have been if they had kept Jerk Out and got rid of Lonely girl on Bourbon Street)
The Time / What Time Is It.
The Family
Vanity 6
The Time / The Time
Jill Jones
Sheila E / the Glamourous Life
Jesse Johnson / Revue
Apollonia 6.

Definately Mazarati. All the rest of the groups on Paisley Park had that orchestra shit on their albums somewhere or other.
Andy is a four letter word.

I like Mazarati, but I always felt The Family to be funkier. If we're talking strictly Paisley Park groups, then The Time wins it with their Pandemonium album. Does that count?

The lyrics to their first release was classic. whistle " 100 Miles Per Hour Baby That's What I'm All About. Need A Lover Who Can Turn Me On. Somebody That Can Make Me Shout!"
