Associated artist song of the day: "Pretty Wild Girl" by Andre Cymone (1985)

Who remembers this incredible slow jam from Andre's 'AC' album, released in the summer of 1985? This is the album that contains the Prince-written track "The Dance Electric".I always felt that the other songs didn't get the attention they deserved."Pretty Wild Girl" is a lush,hypnotic,synth-heavy ballad....and very, very Princely! I could easily see Prince doing this song back then.It never became a single but our local R&B radio station played it anyway. An excellent song from a very good album.

I remember that jam man.....It was my SONG! they played that song here in the STL on our local slow jam quiet storm segment...I wish he had a video to it. 'AC was a tight joint front 2 back....."Book of Love" was my jam to.....Oh and they played "Sweet Sensuality" here TOO! A reRelease would be nice with bonus unreleased cuts for us Org'rs!

This was Andre's album where he wasn't trying his damnest to NOT sound like P. He told me this was his "most natural" album to do. And it shows. Good song although I favor "Red Light" which dated back to early 82. P wanted it for his 1999 album and Andre said "Hell no!".

WOW! I've never heard that one before as far as Prince wanting that song for '1999' album. I love that Andre Cymone cut 'Pretty Wild Girl', it's slept on by alot of purple people. I brought this album almost 10 years ago. It's cool playing this song from time to time along with 'Neon Pussycat' (another slept on track by many purple people) and 'The Dance Electric'.

That was my slow jam.

I think artists often under estimate how much listeners can feel the emotion, sincerity, and resignation in the tones of instruments, and vocal inflections.

Andre succeeeded in making me believe what he was reflecting in song.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Interesting,I think this album sounds alot like Prince."Pretty Wild Girl" is the most Prince-sounding song. The vocals on "Book Of Love" are very Princely too.And of course, you got "The Dance Electric" which is a Prince song anyway, lol. But you know what? Andre was smart to come out with this album. It continues the synth-funk style that Prince abandoned after '1999'.In 1985,I was kinda dissapointed with 'Around The World In A Day'.I wanted to hear the classic Minneapolis Sound and 'A/C' delivers big time.

"Book Of Love" is my other favorite song from this album!!! I don't know why his label didn't release that as a single. These are the songs that should have been the singles:

"The Dance Electric"
"Pretty Wild Girl"
"Book Of Love"

I never really understood why they released "Lipstick Lover" as a single. It's a rather ordinary song, nothing special. Not nearly as strong as the other tracks!

I never heard "Red Light"! Is it a slow jam? If Prince wanted it for '1999',it must have been a kickass track!!!

It's the B-Side of "The Dance Electric" 12-inch version.

I love that song. My favorite slow track by Andre Cymone.

It's a ballad. It was released as a b-side to Dance Electric. I can TOTALLY see why P wanted it.

2nd that emotion!!!.. I heard those jams back in '85 and I thought Pretty Wild Girl WAS Prince at first! Those are two incredible songs that were not done justice by the record company..and STILL slept on by a lotta Purple People,, still remain as two of my fav Minn. Jams...

I wish they would put the 'A/C' album on CD,with "Red Light" as a bonus track pray

Or,they could throw together a 'Best of' compilation.

It's also the B-Side of the 45. I bought the 45 to get the B Side but I didn't buy the 12 Inch because I assumed "The Dance Electric" was the same version as the album. Is it the same version?

Exactly, between Jesse Johnson (and his groups TaMara and the Seen and Da Krash), Morris Day, and Andre Cymone (as well as his production of Jody Watley), the bad ass cold Minneapolis Sound kept on coming and I was not disappointed with their late 80s albums one bit. However, Prince and his productions in the late 80s, was one disappointment after another.

Yeah, it's the same version.

I see my instinct was right. I had been burned before when I bought the 12 Inch of "Let's Pretend We're Married" and it was the same as the album version. I wasn't going to make that same mistake again. Prince could have at least extended the version of "Irresistable Bitch", it was the same as the 45 also.

Yeah, Mazarati kept the sound alive too. Even though it was on the Paisley Park label, that was Brown Mark's project and I'm glad it was. With Prince's state of mind back then, he would have ruined the album with some dorky ass orchestras and shit. lol
